This table runner is super simple to make, and it starts with a pre-sewn burlap table runner. Just cut it to size and stitch about 1/2 inch inside the edge with a coordinating thread to lock the fibers in place.
Besides the runner, you will need:
White latex paint (I used regular wall paint)
2 paint brushes – a large one for the paint and a second for the image transfer
Mod Podge Photo Transfer Medium
A paper towel (wet with water)
And a print out of a feather graphic (I printed 2 of them – which you can find HERE)
First you’ll need to add some paint to the runner to give it a weathered look.
Simply dry brush the runner with a little paint, making it darker in some spots and lighter in others.
While it dries, carefully cut out the feathers. Cut as close as possible to the edges, because the transfer medium will catch every bit of the paper. If you have outlines, they will show!
Once your paint is dry, coat the printed side of the feathers with the Mod Podge Transfer Medium.
Put it print side down on the runner (make sure the paint is dry first), and smush it into the fibers of the runner. Let it dry for 24 hours before moving to the next step.
Once your feathers have cured, wet them with the water on the paper towel, so that all of the paper backing is wet, but not soaked.
Using your finger, roll the paper backing off of the feathers, to reveal the pattern beneath.
When all of your feathers are peeled, you’re done! Just add it to your spring displays to add a little more feathered fun!
