Today’s reader feature is this fun DIY Cookie Tin, which was submitted by Cris. After saving a couple of tins for projects, she decided this one would be the perfect cookie tin. She spray painted it white, created a label using the popular Marseille Graphic and attached it to the tin. Then she painted a yellow scallop at the top, stenciled with white paint and outlined with black helped give it the French flair she was looking for. Then, the finishing touch was the black satin ribbon at the base. The lid has a stencil pattern and wood knob, to add a little something, and she left the inside clean and untouched so that it continues to be safe for food storage. After trying a coat of varnish, which turned her color yellow, she was not happy. She tried dabbing a stencil brush in white paint, and gave the tin an antique look. It was a blessing in disguise because it turned out great!

How did she get the lids to secure back on? Mine will not stay flush, so I don’t know how it could prevent cookies from going stale.

Did you try wiping the lids edges and the top edge of the can? The post says she kept the inside of the jar clean so it would be food safe. Maybe try that and hopefully it will be more secure 🙂 Good Luck!
