Today’s reader feature was submitted by Rhonda who shared her DIY French Dresser. She printed out French sign as large as she could, then did a pencil rub on the opposite side of the printed lettering. After centering and taping the lettering to the dresser, she traced it with a pen so the pencil rubbing would transfer to the dresser. She used the help of our transfer methods page to figure this step out. She then used an oil based paint pen to paint on the design. Lastly, she waxed the finished dresser so that it would be completely protected!

Ooh, I love the detail on the drawers, like a design or a stamp on a box of pastries from a French patisserie. I am highly impressed that she was able to rub off her pencil tracing onto the wood. I have heard of ways to transfer printed images onto wood or other surfaces with a special acrylic gel-base, but I think this method looks cleaner, even if the process is trickier. It certainly creates a beautiful classic or antique look to the dresser.
