It’s starting to feel like Christmas around here already! I’ve started my decorating and I already got a fabulous gift in the mail! The people at Amazon sent me the new Kindle Paperwhite to try out. Yay!
And a handy little leather cover too! I was asked to share some of my favorite books with you guys, and I had so much fun putting together a list of books for Creative Moms. Some of these books will inspire you to live a more creative life, some will help motivate you to turn your creative passion into a business, some may open you up creatively by helping you to see the world a little bit differently, and some are just fun to read! I hope you enjoy the list that I’ve curated for you. You might just want to put a few of them on your Holiday Wish List!
Inspiring Books for Creative Women:
1) The War of Art: Break Through the Blocks and Win your Inner Creative Battles. By Steven Pressfield
The title of this book sounds a little odd, and it’s hard to imagine how a book with this title would have anything to do with creativity or inspiration, but I promise it does have everything to do with those things! The author takes us through the creative journey and helps us to break through our inner barriers to our creativity. If you’ve ever come up with a great idea for a project and then let your inner voice talk you out of it, this book might be just the push you need!
2) Steal Like an Artist: 10 Things Nobody Told you about Being Creative. By Austin Kleon
No, this book is not about copying other peoples ideas! It’s about drawing inspiration from the works of others, but then taking that inspiration and remixing it and re-imaging it into something that is uniquely your own.
3) A Whole New Mind: Why Right-Brainers Will Rule the Future. By Daniel Pink
If you’re a creative person this book will make you feel great about your future! In a time where computers are replacing a lot of the work that humans once did, it’s great to remember that computers aren’t creative. According to Pink we are entering a new era … the Conceptual Age. Interesting read!
4) The Mom’s Guide to Running a Business: Strategies for Work, Success, and Family Balance. By Michele Lee Ribeiro
- Lean In: Women, Work and the Will to Lead. By Sheryl Sandberg
- You Can Heal Your Life. by Louise Hay
- Heart Thoughts: A Treasury of Inner Wisdom. By Louise Hay
- Excuses Begone!: How to Change Lifelong, Self-Defeating Thinking Habits. By Dr. Wayne Dyer
- Daring Greatly: How the Courage to be Vulnerable Transforms the Way we Live, Love, Parent, and Lead. By Brene Brown
- Eat, Pray, Love: One Woman’s Search for Everything Across Italy, India and Indonesia. By Elizabeth Gilbert
- The Alchemist: By Paul Coelho
I’ve had my older Kindle for awhile and I love it, but I love this new one even more! It’s the perfect Holiday Gift for Mom! Although I have to say that I gave my Mom one for Christmas a couple of years ago, my Dad was a little bit envious, so he got one the following year, so I guess dads like them too!
Anyway… the new Kindle Paperwhite has some fabulous new features that I’m pretty excited about! For one thing it’s super lightweight and the compact size means that you can pop it right into your purse, so that you can read your favorite book anytime you like! As a Mom, I know that multi-tasking is crucial for getting through the day. Nothing drives me crazier than sitting for an hour in the dentist office while they work on my kid’s mouth, sitting in the car at the school waiting for the kids to be let out, or hanging out at Karate practice, with nothing to do. With the Kindle Paperwhite I, or you, can get some valuable reading time in, and learn something new, or just pass the time with an enjoyable read. Love that!
Some of the other features that I thought were pretty handy, were Page Flip, which lets you save your place while you flip ahead or back through your book. Smart Lookup, which not only gives you a dictionary meaning, but also uses other references like Wikipedia, to give you a fuller grasp of the meaning of the word or phrase. And, Vocabulary Builder, which saves words that you look up in the dictionary, into a handy list for you. You can even quiz yourself with flashcards afterwards! And if that weren’t enough the new version is lightning fast, with a 25% faster processor, and it allows you to store over a thousand books. Wow! That’s a lot of reading material in one little device! For more info you can check out the Kindle Paperwhite on Amazon HERE.

The Kindle comes highly recommended to me by my bookworm friends, I’ve always wanted a library but never had room. With a Kindle I would have access to an entire room full of glorious books in a teeny space, and I think that is genius! 🙂
Karen3848 says
I *need* a Kindle 😉 because I love the idea of carrying around tons of books to be read, while the actual weight is less than any paperback I may currently be reading. PERFECT for travelling!
Cami S. says
I would love to try a Kindle because the pile of books on my nightstand is getting a bit ridiculous. It would be great if it were easier to take them with me so I could sneak in some reading when I get an extra minute. Thanks for the giveaway!
Brittany Ruth says
Because I need something to take on my long flights. Plus, I’ve read Lean In for one of my graduate courses, it’s a good book and very inspirational!

My 3 yr old grand daughter uses my Kindle constantly. With Kindle Free time, it has opened her imagination from learning to speak Spanish to Dutch.
She has learned skills beyond my comprehension with my Kindle.
There fore, I would love to be able to buy her, her own for Christmas. This way, maybe, I can finally enjoy mine.
Susan Gosman says
Well, I’m a reader who seems to spend an inordinate amount of time waiting for meetings, doctor appointments etc. I would love not to have to tote a heavy book around. The Amazon Kindle sounds like the perfect way to go!

JoniG. says
Your illustrations and diy ideas are wonderful! Thank you so much for making them available!
The kindle is on my wish list because it would be an easy thing to grab or pack for reading as I wait for my husband during his many medical visits, tests and hospitalizations. I keep a bag packed with magazines and books, but it is heavy an often too much to carry when moving from auto to appointment to office, etc., and helping him, too.
Thank you for the opportunity to enter your giveaway.
Kathleen says

thank you for the opportunity!
Anne A. says
I must admit when Kindle first came out, I was a skeptic. I did not think I would enjoy the same fulfillment a “real” book could give. However, after talking with several of my friends who own Kindles, I no longer feel that way. In fact, a Kindle Paperwhite is on my Christmas Wish List because I love to read, but living with R.A. for more than 20 years, I have difficulty holding a book for very long, especially a full size (HEAVY) hardback. The Kindle Paperwhite would allow me to easily read any “size” book for as long as I would like, anywhere and anytime.
lisa schubert says
Reading great books should be on everyone Christmas List. Reading on a Kindle Paper White would be a dream Christmas gift. When I was little I would take books under the dining room table to read and pretend I was the princess or the dragon or the knight in each book and I would be taken away to enchanted forests, dungeons, magic carpets or quaint little villages. Having a Kindle Paper White would be a dream come true.
Holly Johnson says
The Kindle is on my wishlist for my daughter in college, so she can read whatever she feels like on her downtime without having to worry about where to store all the books!
kiml says
I would just love one of these….so convenient!
Mireille says
Tomorrow I’ll fly from France to India with my Paperwhite of course; no problem to wait in the airport , I’m never boring with it, I created my adress book, save it in Pdf and add it in my kindle library, easy for sending post cards.
And thanks for sharing those wonderful graphics. Mireille from France
mary anne fields says
Can you believe I’ve never even tried one? Those of my friends and family who have a Kindle swear by them. Never thought about the convenience of having it with me all the time! Think it would be beyond cool to have one. Thanks for the chance.
julie marsteller says
Im a HUGE reader, I LOVE books, I’ve got them stashed all over my house, in my car, in my classroom (I teach middle school science), my purse, I even have one stashed in my husbands car, just like a squirrel. The other day my 17 year old asked why do we have so many books all over the house, “they’re in piles, bins, on shelves and tables, mom you probably wake up with one on your bed (SSSHHHH! he’s right)!” My answer I just love them. I can’t imagine what it would be like to have all my loves in one place. So for me this is a win-win situation, I get to keep stashing my books, electronically, and still have so many to choose from.
Jessica says
We never have enough time to read all the books we checked out of the library before they are due back. With kindle, everybody can read at their own speed. Yeah!
Cathy says
I don’t own a Kindle and would love one. My husband really enjoys his. If I had one I could get rid of my stack of books….yay less clutter!

The reasons I would love to have a kindle are so many but to sum it up quickly:
— battery life over a simple tablet
— portability
— I can add the books I already have on the kindle app.
— wonderful for travel
and so many more. Its been on my wish list for years, but always seems to stay there.

I’m on my third Kindle (lost one, gave one away, then bought myself a Fire) and I have loved every one! Thinking about selling the Fire and getting a regular tablet, so going back to the Paperwhite is the logical choice for me. I would love having something small to tuck in my purse and have my books with me always!
PS – LOVE YOU GRAPHICS FAIRY!!!! (and thanks for that great book list!)
Traci says
I am currently using my sister’s kindle as she purchased an iPad so no longer needed the Kindle and I am just about out of her books to read so would love to have one of my own rather than purchasing books to put on hers. Hers is the first version that came out so would love a newer one. Thanks!!
Kim B says
I LOVE the portability…take it along and read to the kids…ANYWHERE.

This new Paperwhite is the one I think Santa is bringing my 10 year old daughter. She gobbles books so fast, we’re thinking digital checkouts from the library or Kindle store will be awesome for her.
Shirley says
It would be so great to have a Kindle because of the portability it would give me when I am staying with my husband who is in a hospice house. Because of the cost of hospice care, I am not able to afford to buy a Kindle, so winning one would be superb!

I’d like a Kindle for Christmas because I’m an avid reader, often reading a book in an hour or two, and with a Kindle could always have something with me to read. I can download multiple books and only have a lightweight tablet to carry! Thank you for this opportunity to win one!
Jo-Ann Fagan says
Hello! I’ve love a Kindle because I read whenever and wherever I get a chance. I have five grandchildren, work full-time, and both of my parents are in a nursing home, so time is precious to me. The Paperwhite is on my Christmas list. In fact I wanted it so much I played Santa for myself and ordered my own! Now my friends and family can surprise me by ordering books for my Christmas presents. Soon I will have access to the latest additions without the wait of ordering them one line. I read every day, and I can’t stand not having a good book with me. Because I ordered the 3G model, I will have access anytime and anywhere to all the books I want! I can hardly wait till it arrives at my door step. Hurry Christmas, hurry fast!
Kathie Egbert says
The kindle paperwhite is on my Christmas wish list not only because I am an avid reader, but because reading is the number one strategy recommended by my pain management specialist! The lightweight design, longer battery life and the ability to use it outside in sunlight are such a blessing to me. After multiple back and neck surgeries as well as neuropothy in my hands i am unable to hold books in the conventional way. I read everyday which enables me to enjoy a fuller life within the bounds of my limitations!
Betsy Brown says
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to read, and I’d LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to win a Kindle! That would mean that instead of carrying a bag of books with me everywhere I go, I’d be able to load numerous books onto one lightweight little device and always have a new book to start when I finish one! Yippeeeee! That would make life so much easier!
Thanks so much for the chance to win!
laurie zimmer says
I am such an avid reader! It opens the mind and keeps me young at heart. The Paperwhite is a great way to have books (many books) at my fingertips. The question is: if I get a Kindle will I be able to accomplish ANYTHING else? I am willing to see what happens.
Laura Strack says
I honestly didn’t know I wanted a Kindle until I read your post! I love to read but I don’t always take the time for myself. This year, making time to relax is on top of my to do list and if I owned a Kindle, taking time to enjoy reading more would be so much easier to accomplish. Thanks for the awesome giveaway!
Shannon says
My husband is in the Army, so we move ALOT. I love books. I have so many they have to stay packed in boxes until we move again. I need the Kindle so I can keep all my books without taking up space. Thank you Karen for the book list, I’m going to check out a few of them.
Debbie says
I would just love to win this product for my very dear and most deserving Dad. He is 83 years old and has been my hero my entire life. He has helped me time and time again and I’ve never had enough to repay him other than my love really. Recently he purchased a really inexpensive Walmart brand notebook type thing and it’s NOT user friendly. He’s going to return it. My Dad has an interest in these types of computers as he love to read as well as play games, and email etc. on the computer. This would be something that could “go along” with him on trips and family outings. If you could please consider my Dad, I would be absolutely ecstatic!
Thank you so much, Debbie
Cheryl says
Like you, I hate just sitting waiting around. I love e-books and I have heard great things about the new Kindle.

Katherine Schaffer says
Kindle is on my list this year as a gift for my daughter. I bought my Kindle almost 2 yrs ago and I absolutely love it! The only problem is, I loaned it to my daughter to try and I’m having a hard time getting it back! No surprise- she loves it too. So looks like the only way to get MY Kindle back will be to get one for her!
Maddy says
I use the Kindle app to read on my phone but a Kindle Paperwhite would be OH so much better! 🙂
Angela Mabe says
My daughter has taken over mine and I would love to get her her own.
wendy supanchick says
I really would love to get one for my amazing mother-in-law!! Now how may people can say that!!??
She is now in her 70’s and loves to read, but it is getting hard to read regular novels. So, she started watching the Hallmark channel to get her stories she loves so much. BUT,
Her hubby (God Love Him) turned off the cable, due to budget constraints of retirement and she has lost her beloved Hallmark channel. She tried to start back up reading her novels, but the font is just too small. So, I did find her some larger font books, but hoped to get her for Christmas a Kindle, so she can read anything!! I would love to win this for her. She has been an amazing lady my whole 20 years of being married to her son. I couldn’t imagine a better present. It is one she would never buy herself.
Thanks for offering this great opportunity.
Tena Barke says
As I age and have bifocals now, I need a larger item than my smart phone to read.
I am home only 20% of my time and I could easily read when I have a lunch break or inbetween appts or even when I take others to their appts. It would be my ME-TIME! while caring for so many others.
PLUS I believe it is as good as a computer for web surfing and email.
Eileen says
There’s no better friend than a GOOD BOOK! With a Kindle I would always be surrounded by good friends!!!!!!!!
Del Marie riley says
I want to get one for my mom so bad. She is disabled and often has to stay for months at a time in the hospital. She goes through a lot of books. I have let her use my Kindle and she loves it. It’s funny because she has trouble using a cell phone, can’t use an atm card, but I have taught her how to use the Kindle. Now that I have moved 2,00 miles away, she no longer has access to mine. This would be an amazing gift for her. Thank you for the chance to possibly win one for her.
Darla Wilson says
I received a Kindle last year for Christmas from my son and I LOVE IT!! Not only do I read with it, but it teaches my 4 year old twin granddaughters reading, numbers, colors and more! I plan to surprise him this year with the new one! He’s a police officer that loves to read! The whole family will benefit! Merry Christmas!!
Terri Turner says
I put the Kindle on my wish list cuz I haven’t been reading much lately due to the high cost of buying books. Seems like all my friends have a Kindle and they love it. Time for me to get one too.

I would love a Kindle. I don’t like using the Kindle app on my phone, just too small. I have a decent collection of books downloaded to the app already but would prefer something bigger to read them on (laptop just won’t do). 🙂

I love books and I find myself writing notes and drawing pictures in the margins because I am a visual thinker. I know that I keep those special books in my personal library. I know that the kindle will support my art and keep me moving forward, but I am curious to know if I can love the kindle as much as a book,
Will I still be able to use one like a book?
Kim miles
Jennifer says
I would love a Kindle Paperwhite because my husband and I have different sleep schedules, and the Paperwhite lights up and is bright enough so that we don’t have to turn on a lamp but can read while the other one is sleeping (I’m a light sleeper and the lamp always wakes me up!). With winter and less hours of daylight and more clouds, it’s perfect for day or night!
Susan says

Once upon a time, I used to read constantly…I would travel the world and meet many new people while curled up with a good book. Now that I’ve ‘grown up’, I don’t read as much as before. This Kindle would allow me to begin my literary travels again…as I reclaim that part of me that I missed so much!
Jusa says
I’ve been slow to embrace this new way to read books, but DH has one and loves it, and I have simply too many print books and no place for any more on the shelves. I’d love to dip into your list, Karen, so this is the way to go!

Justine says
eInk readers strain the eyes less than reading on a LCD or LED screen. I believe that if you’re a serious reader, you should get a dedicated eInk reader. Since I know several devoted readers, I would rather give then eInk readers than LCD/LED tablets.
Brenda Lindley says
The Amazon Kindle Paperwhite is on my holiday gift list because it is an inspiring gift to get AND give! Imagine the adventures one can have when carrying this lightweight, volume-speaking, open-up-the-world-for-you Kindle! To own this Paperwhite would be a “Never Ending Story” “Happily Ever After”! Who Wouldn’t want one? 🙂

I purchased one a few years back for my son and then thought what a great idea. I love books but not all the paperbacks that I seem never to be able to get rid of. It would be great to have the new Kindle!

I love, love, love reading books with my kindle app on my iPad but I reallllllllly want a kindle paper white for its size. It will fit so much better into my purse! I read everywhere I go all the time every chance I get. I’m a voracious reader. I have over a thousand books on my kindle app. I do have an original kindle but I’ve seen the Paper white in person and I love the size and the beautiful screen. It’s the perfect gift for this bookworm!
ruby t says
I think that this would be a good thing for me…I have never had one, but many of my friends and my sister rave about theirs….time I got updated. I see how convenient it is having so many books on the device. So astounding that a whole library can fit into a tote bag!

Kindle, Kindle ! Wherefore art though Kindle??
Kelly Aubert says
It is so awesome to be able to carry so many books in a light, little package! I also love that you can read it easily in any light, including outside in the sunshine!!
KIM says
I would like a Kindle because they are so handy when you travel! You can have a whole library of books in such a little package. No need for tons of books that gather dust and only get opened a few times. Save a tree; buy a Kindle! Perfect for people that hate clutter in their home!
Laura G says
I love the idea of being able to take lots of “books” with me when away from home without actually having to carry them!
Heather Nash says
I love that i can have more than one book with me at a time when I travel. I also love that it is so compact – I don’t have a lot of storage space at my house for all the books I would love to read, nor do I have a ton of extra time to spend going to and from the library.
Narita says
Because I can carry a substantial “library’ in my purse and read any book I want any time!!
Dee Hunter says
My Grandsons have totally taken over my Kindle Fire with their games! I would LOVE to have a Kindle Paperwhite so I could finally read all the books I have bought 🙂
Lisa says
Hi, love your blog so much! I have mainly been interested in the Kindle for environmental reasons, because I hate the thought of all the paper waste I generate with my magazine and paperback addictions.

Joelle Platz says
This would be the perfect gift for my readaholic son who is about to graduate college (with an English degree, no less) and head to grad school. It would be the perfect way to take lots of reading material in a tiny bit of space. And he inherited the reading gene from me 🙂
Judy says
I would love to win this for my daughter who is a doctoral student in English Education. Would be perfect for her to be able to download books and reading material and then be able to slip the Kindle in her purse – so convenient and so easy to read!
Lady_D says
Hmm well, no version of the Amazon Kindle was going to be on my gift list until I discovered that, barely two weeks after I got my Kindle Fire HD7 last August, they came out with a new line of Kindle devices, including an updated, faster Kindle Fire… and that, at a lower price than I paid for mine. Can we say envy?
And, having gotten my hands on a Kindle Fire, I’m delighted, but I would like to have the larger 8.9 inch model… so if I can come up with the funds for the new and larger Kindle Fire, I might just give the older one to my daughter for Christmas. I’m pretty sure that she, or my granddaughter would like it.
Cynthia Banessa says
I love the idea of having all my books tucked away in my purse!!!!!
Kathleen Lee says
Why is an Amazon Kindle on my Christmas list? I am sending my son, an avid reader, off to college and this would be the perfect way for him to carry all those books he wants to read but won’t have the room to store!
Becky says
I have the very first Kindle and then purchased the Kindle HD two Christmas’ ago…this year my great-granddaughters will be getting them…they are awesome!
Leena Lanteigne says
The Amazon Kindle actually is on my holiday shopping list! I want to get one for my husband, Jim. he reads all the time and has a fortune invested in books, which he likes to keep. We’re running out of room and storing the books in boxes makes it difficult to find them, should he want to re-read a favorite, plus we’ve lost several due to water leaks. Additionally, he uses the library, which is not always convenient due to its limited hours and he often has to wait for a book to be transferred from another branch, which can take several days. He also hesitates to take the library’s books on travel for fear of losing one and books can be bulky. So I would really like to win this for him! Hugs, Leena
Mabel says
I’d love to have a digital library!!
Thanks!

cheryl says
I hear everyone talking about Kindles and how you can find pretty much any book you want to read. How awesome is that, a library at your fingertips
Teresa says
Because I want to donate all my paper & hardback books to my small town’s new local library – our only library! They need my donated books and with the Amazon Kindle, I can still read them any time I want.
Staci Torgerson says
I would love to win this in order to give it to my mom. She stays up so late at night because she has trouble sleeping due to arthritis and even sleeps in a recliner most nights. I’m sure this would help her during those long hours so take her mind off her pain. Thanks for offering an amazing giveaway!
Tea says
To reKindle my big love, that is why. Right from the day I learnt to read I have been reading and reading and reading, ten books a week at least. Sadly now my Vision is failing due to severe eye disease. But with a Kindle I would be able to keep reading, would I not? I could reKindle my love for books and once again reconquer the world of Litterature, come home, so to speak.
Jennifer Rice says
It would be great to be able to replace my daughter’s Kindle that was stolen out of her car!
Angela says
While I’m not one to leap on the latest tech, Kindles have been around a while now, and I love the idea of using the lending library that comes with my Amazon Prime membership. I read constantly, and a Kindle would be a real treat. Thanks!
Deb Ochs-LaGrone says
I have been an avid book reader my whole life. I was geeky enough to stay home and read instead of going to the parties I was invited too when I was younger, sad but I enjoyed reading more than partying!. Right now I am reading from the Kindle app on my phone, not a very big screen so I would love to have one to “gift myself” one of life’s greatest pleasures, reading more! Thanks for the chance.
D SCHMIDT says
A Kindle would be on my list because I am always intending to read more but dislike clutter. I really like the idea of the Page Flip feature because I am forever interrupted by my children so it would help me keep track.

A New Kindle is on my Christmas list because I want to give it to a deserving person. My husband and I try to gift one lady that we know her entire Christmas. She is so poor that she has her electric turned off the entire summer because she can’t afford the electricity. She got an old used kindle from a pawn shop and that is what she uses for entertainment during those long summer days, reading her kindle. I would love receive a gift certificate so that I could apply it to a new Kindle for her for Christmas.

I would like to have a Kindlewhite as the features sound great. My husband and I would have to share it and the rest as the family as we are all avid readers and as it holds around two thousand books would be ideal for us as if we get one more book we will have to move out of our house and get a much bigger place as they are all over the house in every room the hallways, down the steps, everywhere. It would also be much easier to read with than carrying a bunch of books with us to read and much lighter too. We read everywhere we go and also read in bed too We also never had any kind of kindle book. The list of books you selected to read all sound like good books. Thank you bunches for a chance to win one.
Erika says
I feel like I don’t have time to read anymore with two little ones. I think having something like this would make it easier. Much more portable!

I am very loyal to my 2nd Gen. Kindle (that’s about as long as I could wait to get an e-reader when they first came out) but the battery doesn’t hold a charge the way it used to so the newest Paperwhite is tempting me to upgrade!
Janell S says
I would use it to readddd wherever I went and my husband could use it for medical books when he starts residency next year — the weight of the kindle vs. the weight of those actual books…amazing.
