Today I’m sharing with you my favorite flower pot combination! It’s my “go to” combo, when I want a little color on my patio. I have 3 of these vintage concrete planters in my back yard, the last couple of years I just did straight Petunias, but I’m back to my old favorite again this year!
This is how my urn looked before… full of weeds!! Not really the look I wanted to show my house guest, Funky Junk Donna, during her stay here last week. So I sprang into action a couple days before she got here.
Thankfully it only takes a few minutes to put these together. These were the plants that I used:
1) Red Geraniums
2) Blue Lobelia
3) Silver Helichrysum
I was able to pick all of these up at Lowes in the Garden Center. I love that place, but it can be dangerous, it’s really hard to resist all the beautiful plants!! I ended up buying hanging planters of the Geraniums and Lobelia, they had multiple plants in them, and I just separated them out and used what I needed.
After pulling out the weeds, I planted the Geraniums first. I just used the soil that came with the plant. There was already quite a bit of decent quality soil in the urn.
Then I added the Lobelia and the Helichrysum, I kept them close to the sides of the pot, so that they would be able to hang over the edges and soften the overall composition. I watered it well and added a bit of mulch to keep the moisture in.
Here’s how it looks now, the Helichrysum will continue to grow and trail over the sides, which will make the pots even prettier! The silvery color of the leaves is a nice contrast, to the other plants in the pot. Do you have a favorite flower combination that you use in your posts? I would love to hear about it, maybe I can get some ideas from you guys for next year!
