This lovely Vintage Bird Image is from a Circa 1860 Natural History Print! I don’t know what kind of Bird he is, but I think his coloring is fantastic! This is an old Engraved illustration, that appears to be hand colored. The Bird has a gorgeous yellow gold belly and tail and his head is a beautiful shade of gray green. So much detail on this one! I think he would look fantastic on a Pillow or decoupaged onto Furniture, nice for your DIY or Craft Projects!

The only thing I know for certain about birds is that I love their gorgous colors… This one is most definitely a beauty. His head resembles that of a dove or pigeon to me … but I won’t say that’s a positive ID, as there are so many birds – both past and present – that I could never know them all. Thanks for sharing.

I’m wondering where the book was published. I would like to try and find out what kind of bird it is and it would help to know which part of the world it is from.

Hi Susan, Unfortunately I don’t have the whole book, I only just have this one page. The only info on it was the date, so I’m afraid I can’t shed much light on that for you. Sorry!

Hi, Karen (and everyone).
There’s reverse image look-up software/extensions (check on the Chrome browser — Google has a couple, and one is called “Tin Eye.” You can right-click on the image and it will send you to the same, or similar images and (if you’re lucky) allow you to identify the photo. I landed on a Hungarian site (thank God for Google’s translation capabilities) and found this is probably a “Redstart.” There’s even a sound file on the web page to listen to the bird’s song.
Thanks so much for all of the joy your goodies bring us all.

Natalie,
thanks so much for the information on reverse image look-up. I have many times wondered what a particular bird picture was and now I hope to be able to find out. We are birders at this house, and it drives us crazy when we can’t identify one.

Hi! I’ve asked around a bit, since I studied Biology. It may be a red rock thrush (Monticola saxatilis), but I am not too sure about the English name… It doesn’t matter that much, but it ís a very nice graphic!
