8 19th Century French Architecture
This collection features some marvelous 19th Century French Architecture Images! All of these were scanned from a circa 1859 French Garden Book in my collection. Most of these were meant to be garden structures, rather than houses, all though some may have been homes for gardeners that lived and worked on the grounds of a fine French estate, perhaps with a huge Chateau nearby where the owners lived! I can definitely see several here that I would be quite happy to live in. How about you? Have fun using these in your handmade creations, or just browse through them and dream of living in a the beautiful rural countryside of France!
Vintage Thatched Roof House Images
Featured above is a Charming Thatched Roof House Image! This is one that I scanned from a Circa 1859 French Garden Book. I love all the vines growing up the house and the four large chimneys.
Here we have a lovely Vintage Cottage Image! This charming little house has a thatched roof and some wonderful Tudor style elements on the front of it. There appears to be a smokestack and perhaps a flagpole on the roof. I again love the vines growing up the sides of the porch! I scanned this one from the French Garden book, which I guess makes this some sort of Garden structure. How unusual that it has porches on two levels!
19th Century French Architecture
This is a Charming Vintage French Tudor House Image! It is another one that I’ve scanned from the terrific Circa 1859 French Garden Book. I love all the detail on the roof with two smokestacks and two finials, and the curlicues!! The landscaping is nicely designed in the front and sides of the house.
This charming House Image comes from an 1850’s French Architecture Book. Isn’t it lovely?!!! I love all the fancy intricately detailed trim and three cute finials on the roof. I adore the window details and how the plants are symetrical! So picturesque!
Fancy French House Pictures
Above is a Fun Vintage Fancy House Image! Also from the French Garden Book, this is another example of such impressive detail and design. The linear motif is quite eye–catching. Three finials and two chimneys are on the roof. So captivating!
This is a Charming Vintage French Cottage Image! It looks quite modern to me with three straight lines and symmetry, including four chimneys. This is another one that I’ve scanned from the French Garden Book. I love all the vines growing up the house!
Old French Garden Structures
Above is a lovely Vintage Garden Structure. I love how charming this drawing is! Such an unusual design with a tall outdoor stairway leading to the top of the house along with two chimneys and a turret with flag on top. So special!
This is a Delightful Vintage French Barn Image from the Garden Book. The tall, skinny structure looks to be made of wood and stones. It is surrounded by large rocks, which are probably the foundation as well. I love the Rustic Wood Porch Railing!

Hi Karen,
Without hesitation, I am ready to move in to the 4th house from the top. The one from the 1850 French Architecture Book. Talk about picture perfect! Although each of these are quite interesting with their very own characteristics, this one is my favourite. I think, like anything else, the architects had put a whole lot of thought into their intricate designs back then. That kind of talent just isn’t around anymore.A lot of the newer style homes they continue to build lack so much in character and basically have the same kind of design and features as the one next to them, across the road, down the street that the only thing that differs is the addresses. LOL! Even the custom built homes look alike without any one house that sticks out as ‘different.’ I’m all about the old world charm and really appreciate areas that have the kind of architecture that just WOWS you to pieces.
Thanks so much for sharing these beauties with us! It’s very much appreciated!
Enjoy your weekend and keep safe!

Yes, that one is a beauty Irene! It’s fun to dream about living in a place that, isn’t it?! If you like old houses, I would highly recommend checking out “The Chateau Diaries” on YouTube. It’s such a wonderful channel, always uplifting and pleasant, and the Chateau is just gorgeous!
