Aeronautic Junk Journal
Hey guys, once again one of our fabulous Junk Journal Design Team Members, Lynne Morgado, has created a fabulous junk journal for us. She shares her incredible Aeronautic Junk Journal with you! Each week we spotlight another Mixed Media project, created by one of the amazing Designers on our team. The designers are tasked to use images from our Premium Membership Site to provide inspiration for your own projects. Be sure to check out her Show and Tell Video below. Please scroll down to the end of this post to see her video. Be prepared to be inspired! I will now allow Lynne to tell you all about her art in her own words…
Hello, everyone! I’m Lynne from Mockingbird & Main and I have my August junk journal design team project to show you. This month I’ve created another traveler’s notebook style junk journal. This journal was inspired by the Aeronautical Adventures bundle which I fell in love with as soon as I saw it.
Lately I have been in the mood to go on an adventure so I thought now would be the perfect time to create my hot air balloon themed junk journal with some Steampunk elements as well. If I’m perfectly honest I am too afraid of heights to go up in an actual hot air balloon so for me this is the next best thing.
Lady Wilhelmina Wallingford would disagree with me on that. A Victorian woman of considerable wealth who is looking for an investment opportunity. She has decided to explore the up and coming hot air balloon travel & tourism industry. This journal she carried with her from her home in London to the city of Paris where she took business meetings with various hot air balloon companies and inventors. Although it is a big decision she is making as to where she will invest her money, Lady Wallingford is most certainly a risk taker.
Let me show you some of the ephemera and images Lady W has collected along the way.
I knew Lady W would have rich tastes and the red and gold balloon book cover in the Aeronautical Adventure bundle was a perfect way to create the look & feel of this journal. I added several sari silk ribbon ruffles, which I have found such a fondness for. It is such an easy element to add to journal pages and they create so much texture and interest I think.
I found Lady Wilhelmina waiting in the Instant Ancestors bundle and we are also seeing one of our old friends from The Inventor’s Guild – Charlotte. Her beautiful photo can be found in the Antique Portraits bundle. Lady W is not all business though, she was in Paris after all and the boutiques and wine shops had to be visited of course. The French fashion plate image I printed onto parchment paper to create a page and it is a free image from here on the blog.
The wine list tucked into a pocket is from the French Paperie Collection bundle.
I really enjoy creating tuck spots from bookmark printables. The bookmarks that can be found in several of the bundles are like little pieces of art already created for you and they are the perfect size and shape for a tuck spot. I used a bookmark with a balloon on it from the Ephemera Collection bundle to create a tuck spot inside the front cover.
The balloon title page from the Aeronautical Adventure bundle printed onto cardstock was perfect for a large pocket.
I also found a beautiful aerial photograph of the Eiffel Tower in the Vintage Paris bundle and I printed it onto vellum to create a page.
I created another page with a flip out using the aerial city view image also in the Aeronautical Adventure bundle. This image is so beautiful and detailed.
I wanted something bold in the center of the journal and I always love using any of the papers from the Marbled Endpapers bundle. The red marbled paper is one of my favorites and I think perfect for this journal.
I created a few extra goodies to go along with Lady Wallingford’s journal. One of which is a salesman’s sampler of hot air balloons. I created this tag style journal by printing the black & white balloons from the Steampunk Images #2 Bundle onto an acetate sheet. The tags can be used for journaling or embellishing throughout the journal as well.
I hope to see you over at The Graphics Fairy YouTube channel where you can watch the flip through video and see all the details of this journal and hear a little more about Lady Wallingford’s adventures. Thank you so much for taking the time to read about my August Design Team Project. Take care.

I love the steampunk and Victorian vibe of your journal. Plus, the red and gold have a large impact, while unifying this project. Good tutorial, and good job!
