7 Airships, Dirigibles & Flying Machine Images
Today we have a spectacular collection of Airships, Dirigibles, and Flying Machine Images! These old fashioned transportation images are fun to look at and even more fun to play with. We have a cool Flying Machine with Bat Wings and a Fish Tail. It might actually make a nifty Father’s Day Card! The unusual Airship Boat is perfect for Steampunk projects. To round out the set, we have several Dirigible Images. Each one looks like a pen drawing, or perhaps more of a doodle really. These graphics would be so great to use in your Steampunk projects, or on a Handmade Greeting Card. Nice to use as Photoshop Brushes too!
Vintage Flying Machine Images
This amazing image is an old Advertising card from a French Department Store! It shows a man in some sort of Flying Machine. The machine has bat wings, a fish tail, and a crazy looking corkscrew thing in the front! There’s also a Butterfly man floating about in the background. Quite imaginative!
Unusual Antique Airships
Pictured above is a fantastic antique image of an Airship Boat!! This one is soooo steampunk! It really has it all, including a big balloon, propellers, steam, and two men with top hats!! I’ve included two images, with the original at the top, while the one at the bottom has the clouds removed. This one comes from an 1870’s Science article. So cool!!
Old Fashioned Air Transportation Images
Here we have an Airship or Dirigible Image! I’ve cleaned the image up and enlarged it a lot, as the originals were quite tiny. It comes from a fantastic 1912 catalog of printing supplies in my collection! In this book are samples of all the various bits and pieces available to printers at the time, including all sorts of images used for printing newspapers, advertisements, invitations, etc. There are ornaments, frames, objects, and people; and loads of typography… there are over 1,200 pages of this stuff! This would make a great photoshop brush. I hope you like it!!
Above is a Vintage Dirigible Clip Art Image! It comes from a Circa 1910 book page of three examples. You can find the other two below. I’m not sure what book this is from, as I only just have the one page. I thought they were so cool looking though! The size of the little man working the controls displays the enormity of the machine!
Here is another dirigible illustration from the Circa 1910 book. The detailed array of lines on this one is truly amazing. I can’t imagine how long it must have taken to complete one of these drawings, but patience was certainly required!
I find this one to be especially fascinating for several reasons. First, it surely seems unlikely that the giant airship could fly with that one little propeller, and the entire section that it is connected to with wings and tail look rather flimsy! There also appears to be several people in the open section working about. Pretty scary for me!
I hope you enjoyed this fun curated collection of Airships, Dirigibles & Flying Machine Images! You might also like the 30+ Images in our Transportation Archives HERE!
