All Our Yesterdays Junk Journal
Hey, everyone! Marie Willetts from Crafty Landing, one of our amazing Junk Journal Design Team Members, created a fabulous All Our Yesterdays Junk Journal for us this week. As you know, we feature one new Junk Journal project each week created by one of our creative team of artists. Our Design Team Members select from the 100’s of Vintage Image Bundles on our Premium Membership Site, for their creations, in order to show you beautiful ways to use those images. We hope you will be totally inspired by this series!
Therefore, please make sure you check out the video tour at the bottom of the page…please scroll all the way down to see it. Are you ready to be inspired? I will step out of the way and let Marie tell you all about her incredible project…
Hi everyone! It’s Marie from Crafty Landing here with you again. I’m back with another DT project for The Graphics Fairy, and I’ve chosen one of my favourite themes this time round – vintage. I guess we all lean towards something we connect with, feel at ease with, and for me, it’s all things vintage. I must get it from my mother as she has a keen interest in Ancestry and Genealogy, and she has traced our family back to the 1700’s. It’s amazing!
For this journal, I have mixed vintage-style digital papers and images found on the Graphics Fairy website with original vintage papers and ephemera from my stash. As the title suggests, I wanted the journal to have a feel of ‘yesterday’, like it once belonged to a Grandma, and has been found inside an old suitcase in the attic. I hope you get that sense of feeling when we take a closer look inside. If you already follow me, you will know that for each of my Design Team Projects, I branch out of my comfort zone to attempt to create something new, something I’ve never done before. Well, ‘All Our Yesterdays’ is the very first journal I’ve made with two signatures. Yep, I’ve never made multi-signature journals before. Go me! Let’s take a closer look inside.
As you can see, it’s a hard cover, which came from an original ‘Practice Shorthand’ book. I chose a family photograph (Antique Portraits) and layered it on some vintage script and music papers. I then added a cluster of vintage lace, fabrics, buttons and a beautiful filigree-type heart. Amongst other metal pieces in my stash, I found a mini drawer handle and I knew that not only would it look pretty on the cover, but could also be used to ‘open’ the journal. Perfect! The title was cut from the Quotes And Text printable in the Family Tree Genealogy bundle, and I have used several more of these inside the journal itself.
When you open the first page, you will find a beautiful full-length Victorian hand holding a rose which I cut from a greeting card. The opposite page showcases a slim side pocket made from a collage of book pages, which holds a journal card made from images I found in many of the Ephemera bundles.
I created a pocket using a cream cheque (French Ephemera) for the back. I added pretty Victorian ladies (My Favourite Things set 2) on the front of the pocket, with a piece of crochet trim for extra interest. The pocket holds a photo (Antique Portraits) and an original undated letter from a mother sending Christmas blessings to her daughter, Florrie. The handwriting is exquisite.
Here, I stuck a piece of original piano roll onto a page, and cut down a library card (Attic Paper Stash) to create a small pocket. I added a small cluster of lace and torn papers in the corner of the pocket. Inside the pocket you will find a genuine silver-inscribed wedding invitation from 1970 (the year I was born).
I enjoy adding collage to many of the pages in a journal. I find it helps to use up my hoard of scrap papers. Let’s face it, us crafters don’t throw anything away! The torn patterned paper you see here is from the Rustic Tattered Treasures bundle, and the little blue flower tag is from the Tags and Tucks printable found in the Chelsea Flower Show Inspired bundle. They are very pretty, and I use these quite a lot in my journals. It shows how versatile the printables are.
Another collaged page, but this one has a vellum cover to help create a hidden journaling spot. I used the search bar on the Graphics Fairy site to find the pink rose image, resized to what I needed, then printed it. I printed a delicate neutral pattern on the vellum (Tattered Paper Treasures).
On this page, I chose to use one of the Vintage Album Frame printables. There are some lovely quotes inside the frames. This is a cover of a little notebook that I stuck to the page. I enjoy adding small, interactive details like this to my journals. I like them to be tactile.
Finally, I’m sharing my favourite spread in the whole journal. I just love how the two pages look together side-by-side. It’s so pleasing to the eye. The beautiful vintage photo of a mother and her daughter rests on a neutral collaged background, with the butterfly providing just a ‘pop’ of colour. The flap opens up to reveal extra journaling space. The opposite page is a printable from The Traveler bundle, and again, using the search bar, I printed and cut out the thimble image (Sewing And Needlework).
Thank you for stopping by today, and I hope you’ve enjoyed reading about my ‘All Our Yesterdays’ Journal. Please drop by the Graphics Fairy YouTube channel to watch my flip-through.

Hi Tineke, if you go to the “Printables” section of the Premium site, and then in the little box on the left side of the screen select the first option “Artist Trading Cards” (ATC) and that will bring up all of them. There are lots to choose from. I hope that helps!
