Altoid Tin Junk Journal
Hey guys, once again one of our fabulous Junk Journal Design Team Members, Lynne Morgado, has created a fabulous junk journal for us. She shares her incredible Altoid Tin Junk Journal with you! Each week we spotlight another Mixed Media project, created by one of the amazing Designers on our team. The designers are tasked to use images from our Premium Membership Site to provide inspiration for your own projects. Be sure to check out her Show and Tell Video below. Please scroll down to the end of this post to see her video. Be prepared to be inspired! I will now allow Lynne to tell you all about her art in her own words…
Hello everyone, I’m Lynne from Mockingbird and Main and I am here to share my October junk journal Design Team project with you. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again…good things come in small packages…I hope that you will agree.
For this month’s project, I created a mini junk journal in a tin. I love working in miniature and have been wanting to create another journal in a metal tin. I was inspired by the Secret Life of Flowers Bundle on the Premium Membership site. The images are just gorgeous – rich, bright botanicals complete with accompanying insects.
The images in the bundle definitely deserve to be showcased and I was hesitant at first to use them in such a small project, but I am so happy with the results.
The Graphics Fairy team does such amazing work for us. The images they curate and create are so well done that even when reduced in size the images are still vibrant and detailed.
I used a couple of the Altoid tin images from the bundle to embellish inside the tin, distressing them and collaging with lace scraps, paper and book page pieces and vintage trims.
The botanical book page images are perfect junk journaling cards. I printed onto the back of them with a stacked paper from the Delicate Endpapers bundle, reducing it’s opacity so that it is light enough to be able to journal on.
I created the journal cover using a piece of a vintage doily, linen napkin and fabric. I embellished it with a crinkly seam binding closure in a teal that coordinates beautifully with the botanical images. I also added a couple vintage buttons and a rusty safety pin.
I have always loved the combination of grungy and delicate elements and you will see that a lot in this set.
There are small pockets on the cover that I created using the doily, and the microscope slide images fit perfectly and can be changed out for variety. I have reduced them a little in size and layered them with chipboard and card stock to create charms of a sort. You will be able to see them in more detail in the flip through video.
The journal itself has both tea dyed paper and parchment paper pages and a few pockets as well. A good amount of journaling space for a wee journal.
The Altoid tin images in the bundle are so unique and I wanted t0 include the rest of them in some way outside of the junk journal and tin. To that end I have backed two of the images together and sewn around the edges and created a little ring bound mini image collection.
I distressed the tin by banging it up with my little craft hammer and adding metallic paints to it. On the cover of the tin, I created a layered collage using another of the botanical images from The Secret Life of Flowers Bundle, some textile and papers scraps, a piece of cardboard, another rusty safety pin, and some other goodies.
I hope you will visit me over on my YouTube channel to see the flip through video!
