Celestial Junk Journal
Hey guys, once again one of our fabulous Junk Journal Design Team Members, Sheena from Luna Rozu, has created a fabulous junk journal for us. As you know, we are featuring one new Junk Journal each week created by our team of talented artists. Our goal is that you be totally inspired by this series! Sheena created an adorable mini journal filled with astronomical and celestial moon images! Be sure to check out the video tour at the bottom of the page…you need to scroll all the way down to see it. Are you ready to be inspired?
And now I will let Sheena tell you about her project in her own words…
Mini Celestial Junk Journal
Greetings once again everyone! This is Sheena from Luna Rozu and this shall be my last design team project for The Graphics Fairy for now and I’m happy to present another mini (I call it fun-size!) junk journal.
Initially, I started with the idea of creating a witch-themed journal especially after coming across a collection called ‘Luna The Magical Queen’ on The Graphics Fairy Premium Membership Site. I mean, how could I not right? That said, after starting work on the journal, I realized I was focusing more on the astronomical aspect of the theme which is why you’ll see that the junk journal has less about spells or magic. I guess you just gotta’ go with the flow sometimes eh? The cover, by the way, is actually a printed image from The Graphics Fairy Premium Membership Site. How cool is the grunge on that image! An easy solution if you’re not keen to re-purpose antique book covers from your personal collection.personally added a distressed black cloth tape on the binding for a ‘lived-in’ look.
I found quite a fair bit of celestial and moon-related images from both of the following bundles: Luna The Magical Queen and Celestial Images. I printed most of these as background images because didn’t have any store-bought patterned paper on the subject. And in keeping with the vintage style, I chose images from the Marbled End Paper bundle to print on the back. Notice how those swirly lines kind of mimic the clouds- Perfect!
And this of course, is the very pretty magical queen from the bundle. As per usual, I’ve used my favorites: fabric and buttons to decorate parts of the journal including this pocket.I have also decided to use stickers in this journal. I know what you’re thinking – How would modern day stickers fit in a vintage theme?! And my answer to that are 3 things: Sticker designs, placement and to use them sparingly.
In the image above with Luna the Magical Queen, I’ve attached a very tiny 3-D silver star sticker just on her crown whereas this one with the huge moon in the background, I’ve stuck on 3 gold star stickers just among the tiny stars. Both placements are subtle enough to draw more attention to the image design but not too loud to take away from it.
Apart from the images on the phases of the moon, I have also managed to find this adorable image from the Angelic Symphony bundle. Another reason to love The Graphics Fairy Premium Membership Site is because all the thumbnails for their bundles have snippets of the images inside the bundles which made searching for this particular one super easy despite the title.
You could also always print on transparency paper to add a different dimension to your journal pages. I use an inkjet printer for mine and let the ink dry at least an hour or so before using it.
And finally, don’t forget to add in ‘ephemera’ from everyday life into your journal. Even if you’re working on a specific theme, these help to add an ‘authentic’ feel to the overall story of your junk journals. For mine, I added bits of sewing ephemera and vintage labels.
The Premium Membership Bundles used in this project:

Celestial Images
Scents & Soap Ephemera
Pastel Christmas

I was so lucky to be the one that bought this journal. And I love the celestial/astronomy theme as I am a very keen amateur astrologist.
I actually feel it was meant to be this way. So once again Thanks a lot to you Sheena 💓🤩🥰
