Christmas Carol Junk Journal
Hey everyone. Design Team member Anna Hollingworth of Leximbue Journals created a fabulous Christmas Carol Junk Journal for us this week. As you know, we feature one new Junk Journal project each week created by one of our creative team of artists. Our Design Team Members select from the 100’s of Vintage Image Bundles on our Premium Membership Site, for their creations, in order to show you beautiful ways to use those images. We hope you will be totally inspired by this series! Therefore, please make sure you check out the video tour at the bottom of the page…please scroll all the way down to see it. Are you ready to be inspired? I will step out of the way and let Anna tell you all about her wonderful project…
Oh the joy when I saw the Dickens Christmas bundle! A journal just had to happen and there is an abundance of images and ephemera to choose from for this nostalgic project.
I tried to create a true likeness of a Victorian Christmas journal, with a rustic, dreamy atmosphere. I imagined it belonging to a lady who was saving among its pages fashion off cuts, cards and tags that she would like to use for her wrapping and correspondence and party plans and menus.
The cover was that of her favorite book of the times, A Christmas Carol and she would be able to hide the lists and plans from curious family members.
I created an assemblage from tags and different elements including a sample of ornamental foliage that she particularly liked for her decorations.
I cut around some ladies wearing the latest fashion, as ideas that she liked for her own outfits.
I used two of the ornamental cones to create some interesting pockets and tuck spots. I created a double pocket, top layer transparent so one could admire the image of a lady with poinsettias and a folded piece of Christmas music safely tucked behind it.
I sewed on the side of a page a collage of soaps as an advertisement which I imagined she would have added to her shopping list. The red folder is so very pretty with flowers and a bird in this dreamy setting. I added a couple of bingo cards inside the pocket as well.
This project has been a delight to create. Not only for its theme, so hopeful and positive especially in these difficult times that we are experiencing, but also for the beauty and variety of the imagery and bundles that I used.
