Hello Everyone, for this month’s project I have created a Christmas themed, folio style, junk journal. I am calling the journal The Lady of the House. I wanted to create a folio style journal to document all of the things a lady does to prepare for the Christmas season. Christmas time brings about a lot of hustle and bustle. We are often decorating the tree, shopping for gifts, sending cards to friends and family and preparing homemade recipes. In this folio you will find my interpretation of a Victorian lady’s preparations for the holiday season.
I created the folio using many Victorian images of cherub and angels in an old world Christmas style. On the cover of the folio I used some beautiful antique wallpaper in the prettiest shade of brown. I love the velvet closure. It is funny because when I first started to work on this journal, I was planning to do a more pastel palette, but journal making tends to take on a life of its own sometimes. I really love the brown and sepia shades mixed with the greens in this journal. The end result has a Victorian feel to me.
The folio folds open to reveal many different sections. The sections are organized in areas I thought a lady of the Victorian era might be doing for Christmas. One is trimming the tree with some handmade ornaments… a real tree of course, no artificial trees back then! I used the printable section of the Graphics Fairy premium membership site for some of the ornaments, and for others, I created them using the large assortment of Christmas images offered on the site. I especially love the touches of gold and real silver glass glitter on the ornaments.
Another section of the folio has a place to tuck gift giving supplies, like cards and handmade tags. Labels for gifts, and even a few little gift bags. As you flip though, you will find a place to plan the Christmas family meal. I thought this was a great place to tuck a recipe or two and a shopping list for dinner. I have included a photo from one of my Christmas magazines of a fruit cake the lady of the house would like to bake. 🙂
I tried to include many pockets, belly bands and tuck spots. It was really fun searching through the many images on the premium membership site. There are many many images to choose from that would suit a Christmas theme. I hope you enjoy flipping through my folio style journal and mostly I hope it inspires you to create a beautiful Christmas keepsake of your own. I’m wishing you a wonderful holiday season to come, and I will see you again next time.
