Hi, everyone. I’m Rhonda from JOYjunktique, and I’m excited to show you my next Design Team Project for the Graphics Fairy Premium Membership site. I created a chunky “Cup of Tea”
waterfall junk journal that, I imagine, holds keepsake memories of a favorite tea party among old friends. I was inspired to use the Posies and Porcelain kit that I found on the premium website.
For the base, I used a piece of stiff cardboard and folded it so that the front is not as wide as the back, in order to create a waterfall journal with lots of layers cascading down. I covered the
cardboard with a piece of blue and cream toile-like fabric. I added a beautiful vintage collar that wraps around from the front cover to the back cover, and then inside the back cover, where I
added a button closure.
The collar allowed me to create pockets to tuck things into to add interest. A piece of gorgeous blue velvet ribbon wraps around the journal to tie it closed. An old
silver teaspoon adds character to the cover when tied into the velvet ribbon.
On the front cover, I used an old receipt that was very fragile to make a floating pocket with a journaling card and a quote from the kit, and a copy of an antique photo of old friends looking
like they could be dressed for a tea party. Since the receipt was so fragile, I used a coat of mod podge to strengthen it and then repaired a torn-off corner with a piece of a tea bag. The floating
pocket slips down into the pocket created with the collar.
For the spine, I added 2 white eyelets that provide a different way to attach the signature pages, while adding more detail with a metal piece that secures a piece of blue velvet ribbon used to
sew in the journal pages and glued to the inside spine.
Inside the journal, there are lots of pockets and tucks and more unique details that were all so fun to create. Tucked in a pocket on the inside cover is a beautiful journaling card and a copy of
a Godey’s Lady’s magazine page from my collection. An embossed napkin page adds more of that beautiful blue. Throughout the journal, I added interest with different textures and a variety
of papers.
Laces and ribbons and ruffles adorn the pages and cascade down the edges of the journal, as can be seen in this view of the journal. I just love the layers!
These pages feature a beautiful lady bookmark from the 1907 Beauties kit and a sweet teacup I found on the website. I used an embossing frame die to create this pocket that holds a copy of a
tea party magazine page, and added the beautiful dainty trim to the edge of the frame.
I used cardstock to create an envelope from this beautiful yellow design from the website and added a blue ruffle from a page in the Delft Blue Ephemera kit. Inside the envelope, there is a
delicate ladies handkerchief tied in with some white seam binding. The opposite page has a fold-out repurposed envelope that I took apart and covered with leftover pieces from the digitals
I used. I created pockets on each side of the envelope, with this one holding the cutest teacup that opens up to be 3 dimensional.
Here’s the teacup opened up where you can see how precious it is! I die cut pieces from the Posies and Porcelain kit to create the teacup. I added a die cut ruffle and a beautiful yellow rose
(from the website) on the inside of the teacup. I even found a spoon on the website and added some glitter to look like sugar! I decoupaged a used tea bag with more of that same napkin and
then used it as a pocket to hold a cloth tea bag filled with allspice. I attached a cute little tea bag tag from the Tea Party Images kit.
I added an old catalog page of silver tea sets to the journal and to this side of it, I attached a tea advertising card as a tuck to hold a cute envelope with tickets inside, all from the website. An
embossed page with a crocheted lace pocket holds an embossed folio page with a floral “cameo” I made from the Oval Flower Collage Sheet.
Tucked into a side tuck on this page is a folded up doily that is home for this large tag made from the dark blue page in the Delft Blue ephemera kit. I added a lace pocket at the bottom of
the tag that holds a journaling card with this Victorian lady from the French Fashion Ladies kit. I sewed on a piece of jewelry in the corner to add some bling.
The beautiful blues are featured here on these pages. I created a fold-over with a dictionary page and a tea bag, and then made tucks and pockets to hold ephemera. I added an embossed
piece at the bottom. The opposite page has a beautiful pattern on it and fussy cut teacups. Under the lace flap is a Tea Party Invitation I found on the website and an original piece of ephemera.
Thanks for taking the time to see my project! I hope you got some ideas. Be sure to watch the video presentation to see the complete flip through. I’ll see you next time!
