Flower Show Junk Journal
Hey guys, once again one of our fabulous returning Junk Journal Design Team Members, Lynne Morgado, has created an amazing junk journal for us. She shares her incredible Flower Show Junk Journal with you! Each week we spotlight another Mixed Media project, created by one of the amazing Designers on our team. The designers are tasked to use images from our Premium Membership Site to provide inspiration for your own projects. Be sure to check out her Show and Tell Video below. Please scroll down to the end of this post to see her video. Be prepared to be inspired! I will now allow Lynne to tell you all about her art in her own words…
Hello everyone, I’m Lynne from Mockingbird & Main. I am so happy to be back as part of the Design Team for the Fall/Winter 2021 season. This Design Team is an amazing group of creators and a constant source of inspiration.
For my September project I would like to introduce you to “Annie Visits the Flower Show”. Annie visited the Chelsea Flower Show for the first time as a child in the mid 1800’s and she has been returning every year since. She doesn’t have a lot of extra money for frivolities, but she saves all year for one day when she gets to travel to London for the Flower Show. Annie now works as a ladies maid and she has a close relationship with the lady of the house who always allows her the day off for the show.
I hope you will enjoy a peek at Annie’s journal that she has been keeping for many years. The inspiration for this journal started with the Chelsea Flower Show inspired Bundle. Wanting to challenge myself and try something new with a junk journal project, I decided to make a fabric journal with all the pages created from assorted textiles. I almost succeeded, but couldn’t help myself and added some pages of tea-dyed mixed media paper. These pages gave some stability to the journal and can be painted, collaged, written on, sketch on…you name it. Having collected lots and lots…and lots of assorted textiles over the years (I know some of you can relate), I wanted to start using more of them in my projects.
Since Annie is a ladies maid she might also like to save bits and pieces of her favorite fabrics or the remnants from clothing and linen repairs in her journal. Loose buttons, pins and charms can also be saved on the fabric pages.
I really enjoyed planning and creating the fabric pages. It was nice to slow down and think about the design of each page and how I could best use the linens and fabrics that I had chosen. If you’ve been as inspired by journal creators that work in fabric, as I have been, I hope you will give this style of journal a try. If you don’t have a sewing machine you can always slow stitch. It will be a labor of love, but well worth it I think.
The colors in the Chelsea Flower Show Inspired Bundle is where I began. I chose fabrics, doilies, vintage handkerchiefs, sari silk ribbon and seam bindings with bright, cheery colors that coordinated really well with the bundle.
Once I had made all the fabric pages, which include lots of pockets, it was time to make ephemera to fill up those pockets. Annie has certainly saved many treasured pieces of ephemera over the years. The printables that The Graphics Fairy team created for this bundle are beautiful and I think I may have used just about all of them.
The journal pages and the patterned papers I reduced in size and created two mini junk journals to tuck into the larger pockets of the journal.
The ATC journal card sheet is just so pretty! I printed it onto a cardstock weight paper to create journal cards and added textiles and sari ruffles to several of those. The seed envelope printables I filled with journaling cards.
I have also added quite a few authentic vintage tickets to the journal that Annie has saved from her travels. The London Detective Bundle has tickets and a luggage claim that I thought were perfect for this journal.
I also went back to one of my old favorites, the Garden Party Bundle. The formal garden image in that bundle makes a perfect journaling card. I also used the ornate gate image and the gazebo for some digital stamping which I will show you in the flip-through video.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read about my Design Team project. I look forward to showing you all the details of this journal in the flip-through video. I hope you will join me over on The Graphics Fairy YouTube to see what Annie has been collecting.

What a lovely introduction and display of this wonderful journal! One might call it a “junk journal”, when in reality, it’s more like a pleasant vacation revisited. Loved it! And the story line you have used! Thank you so much for sharing!
