French Blue Junk Journal
Hey guys, once again one of our fabulous Junk Journal Design Team Members, Lynne Morgado, has created an amazing junk journal for us. She shares her incredible French Blue Junk Journal with you! Each week we spotlight another Mixed Media project, created by one of the amazing Designers on our team. The designers are tasked to use images from our Premium Membership Site to provide inspiration for your own projects. Be sure to check out her Show and Tell Video below. Please scroll down to the end of this post to see her video. Be prepared to be inspired! I will now allow Lynne to tell you all about her art in her own words…
Hello everyone, I hope you are all doing well. I am excited to tell you about my February Design Team Project.
This junk journal definitely took on a life of it’s own. I was initially inspired by a piece of fabric that I had in my stash which I used to create the cover and with that I was going to do a lot of birds and blues in the journal.
There are definitely lots of blues and there are some birds, but this journal is now also loaded with French receipts. Once I finished the cover I knew it needed French ephemera, too.
I started my window shopping in the many French bundles available on the Premium Membership site. I found more and more receipts that I loved and just had to use in this journal. There is just something so beautiful and fascinating about antique French receipts.
This year I have been making an effort to try new things and step out of my creative comfort zone in some way with every journal I create. Sometimes that is not so easy for me.
To that end, in this journal I did something I don’t think I’ve ever done using smaller ephemera images. I printed the French receipts full-size borderless onto 8.5″ x 11″ paper and used them as pages. I have been so inspired by other journal makers on the Design Team to enlarge and use images as full pages. The receipt images printed so amazingly clear & crisp at that larger size.
On the backs of those pages I printed pattern papers form both the Blue & White Chinoiserie Bundle and the Pink, Blue & Red Florals Bundle.
I really love the tags from the Chinoiserie bundle and tucked lots of them throughout the journal.
I had some fun with the cover, creating a fabric snippet style removable wrap closure. I am so happy with how it turned out. I will definitely be making more of those in the future.
Yes, I am still having my love affair with sari silk. There are both sari silk and fabric ruffles on the edges of several pages. I just think the ruffles add such texture and interest to the pages.
From the Vintage Postcards bundle (which is another of my favorite bundles), I printed some of the postcards onto cardstock and then embellished and collaged them. The postcards are a perfect backdrop to create little pieces of collage art.
I have more to show you, so I hope you will join me on The Graphics Fairy’s YouTube channel to see the flip through video.

every journal you make is just overwhelming from cover to cover by your creative hands. When you are using the kids art paper, are you distressing the back to look like the fold lines have been smudged a little over time? you might guess I watch more than once, and look really really closely at your work. thank you for such beautiful inspiration

Lynne does do amazingly beautiful work, I agree! I am so glad you enjoyed it. You could certainly distress the back of the paper if you wanted to. We have some fun techniques for aging paper here that you might find helpful https://thegraphicsfairy.com/how-to-age-paper-easily/ 🙂
