Therefore, please make sure you check out the video tour at the bottom of the page…please scroll all the way down to see it. Are you ready to be inspired? I will step out of the way and let Sarah introduce herself, and tell you all about her incredible project…
Hello everyone! My name is Sarah and I am so honored and excited to share with you today, my very first design team project for the Graphic’s Fairy premium membership site. I am a French junk journal maker and vintage ephemera and supply seller living in France. The first journal I created is inspired by my love for old French documents and ephemera I find when treasure hunting!
The Graphic’s Fairy has an impressive and beautiful collection of old precious French ephemera printables and French themed image bundles that I had fun selecting and pairing with authentic documents from my personal collection.
The intended result was to create a book that would hold and keep your treasured paper bits safe. I also love the idea of this journal being a collector’s journal for old and or personal memorabilia.
The main colors I used throughout and which also guided my ephemera and printables choice were blues, reds, burgundy, white and cream which is probably my favorite color palette to work with.
The journal cover was made using a manila type folder to allow some flexibility and room for stacking pieces of ephemera throughout the journal. It is covered by a beautiful silken fabric. The center piece is a thin recycled cardstock from junk mail that I covered with a burgundy velvet to which is attached a handmade booklet with an authentic Antique CDV (‘Carte de visite’) holder album page as the cover. There are some textile ruffles, faux flower petals around the central piece and an old metal keyhole to create a more airy and elegant look to the cover.
Inside, an eclectic mix of French ephemera and designs from the Graphic’s Fairy premium site that I picked from different French themed bundles.
To add a textural element to ephemera such as the French invoices or script ephemera, I printed them on to various types of papers like onion skin, linen textured, vintage typewriting and watercolor paper.
For instance, I loved the result of printing the front and back of this antique French notary document from the bundle ” French ephemera collection” onto some watercolor paper. I tear off the edges with a simple ruler to give it a cotton rag paper look similar to the authentic notarized deed that were written in the 19th century!
I also had a play with some vectors that allow you to print an image with no background. That way you’re able to choose yours whether it is a simple coffee dyed page to add more interest or on to some more detailed collaged sheet. I used some beautiful frames and botanical images to add details to some journaling pages, tuck spots and even on some already intricate and busy ephemera. In this case, a beautiful floral vector from the red and white floriculture bundle printed on to an authentic French handwritten business document.
Although I do enjoy embellishing the journals that I make quite a bit, I also like to add “floating pieces” throughout that the owner can move about, remove and/or use in another project.
I hope you enjoy watching the flip through of this journal and get some inspiration from it! Thank you so much for your time and happy Spring!
