Herbs and Bees Junk Journal
Hey guys, once again one of our fabulous Junk Journal Design Team Members, Lynne Morgado, has created an amazing junk journal for us. She shares her incredible Herbs and Bees Junk Journal with you! Each week we spotlight another Mixed Media project, created by one of the amazing Designers on our team. The designers are tasked to use images from our Premium Membership Site to provide inspiration for your own projects. Be sure to check out her Show and Tell Video below. Please scroll down to the end of this post to see her video. Be prepared to be inspired! I will now allow Lynne to tell you all about her art in her own words…
Hello everyone! I am so happy to be back to tell you about my December Design Team project. I know what you’re thinking – it’s December (and I am in New England) – why a gardening themed journal? It all started because I was missing my garden and I’m already planning for next year. Tending to my garden this year brought me such joy and peace when I needed it the most. It was a small and simple garden with some flowers for the bees & butterflies, a few vegetables in pots and a selection of herbs.
Inspiration also came when I found the bee journal cover in my unfinished projects box. At the end of each year I clean and straighten my studio and finish up those unfinished projects that I have put aside for one reason or another.
My jumping off point for this theme was the Herbal Apothecary Shoppe bundle and the adorable little envelopes and gorgeous journal pages that The Graphics Fairy created for that bundle.
My next stop was the printables section on the Premium site. I know I have mentioned this before, but I will say it again the printables section is fabulous! The images are all categorized for you and the search is so easy. I searched in the journal pages section and what a selection! If you are new to making junk journals and maybe a bit overwhelmed at the idea of designing and creating individual journal pages. Not to worry. The Graphics Fairy team has created so many beautiful, unique and layered pages for you to use.
Blues and florals were on my wish list to coordinate with both the journal cover and the Herbal Apothecary Shoppe pages. I found exactly what I was looking for. The pages I chose are from The Bright and Bold Butterflies Bundle, Vibrant Birds Bundle, Spring Meadows Bundle and Hummingbird & Hibiscus Bundle. They are so beautiful!
I printed the pages onto a lightweight cardstock and then folded them in half. This created enough thickness and strength to punch the holes and put onto the binder rings.
I wanted to create a junk journal that was a bit more practical and utilitarian. Something a gardener might keep in their garden shed or on their potting table for reference and note taking. That being said I also wanted the journal to appeal to and be useful to someone who loves gardens and journaling, but may not do any garden planning themselves.
I didn’t forget about the bees. You will find bees buzzing around the journal here and there. I don’t know about you, but I love to watch the chubby, fuzzy bumblebees busily gathering pollen. If you would like to see how I created the embossed bee journal cover, there is a handcraft tutorial video on The Premium Membership site.
I have so much more I want to show you. I hope you will join me on The Graphics Fairy YouTube to see the flip through video of this junk journal.
