So here it is, the final post documenting my husband’s (Mr Fairy!) weight loss journey. You might recall in my last 2 posts, where I told you guys that my husband had decided that it was time to shed a few pounds. In my first post, I explained that by making just a few changes he had lost 4 pounds. And then in my second post, I talked about how he had lost an additional 11 pounds, on top of that, in less than a month! Well I’m happy to report that here we are 6 weeks later from where we first started, and he has lost a grand total of 17 pounds! He went from 223 – 206! Yay! According to Mr Fairy, this is the lightest that he has been in 20 years! Just to reiterate these are the changes that he made that brought about losing those pounds:
- For dinner he’s focused on eating a smaller portion of meat and a much larger portion of vegetables, as well as keeping an eye on the total calories
- Instead of eating a high calorie sweet for dessert, he satisfies his sweet tooth with a delicious Fiber One Dessert Bar or Cookie Bar
- He’s eating dinner earlier in the evening
- He replaced his breakfast (which was a high-calorie granola bar) with a Fiber One Dessert Bar
- He’s continued with his daily walks and/or evening bike ride
Here’s a little bit of info about the bars that he’s been eating. The bars are all less than 150 calories each; some are even 90 calories! And they come in delicious flavors like the New Cheesecake Bars in Salted Caramel Cheesecake and Strawberry Cheesecake! Cinnamon Coffee Cake is another great flavor! They’ve got Cookie Bars too… like their delicious New Soft Baked Peanut Butter Cookie, the New Crunchy Sugar Cookie and Chocolate Chewy Bars. Yum!! Each Bar has 20% daily value of Fiber as well, another important consideration at this stage in our lives! With Fiber One you don’t have to fight your instincts, or your sweet tooth! Go on. Have one. 🙂

Congratulations on your husband’s weight loss and healthy lifestyle changes. I too, am on a weight loss mission. For years I drank only peach Snapple. Then I decided to drink grapefruit juice in an attempt to cut out all the sugar. Well to my surprise, even plain grapefruit juice contains 28gms of sugar per serving! And, being that I drink about a half gallon a day, that was no help. I am now drinking flavored water which provides me with the thirst quenching tastes of mandarin orange, acai-grape berry and lemon flavors but with 0 calories and 0 sugar! I feel better, am sleeping better and have more energy than I’ve had in years. Simply by cutting out all of the sugar that I was unknowingly consuming every day. I have a doctor’s appt today so I will see how much weight I have lost after switching to the flavored water.

I find taking a big drink of water when I feel hungry helps to curb calorie intake. I’ve read that we often mistake our body’s cries for water for hunger.

I found that drinking a glass of warm water with a teaspoon of fresh lemon juice each morning helps jump start your metabolism.

Besides drinking ginger and lemon water, I chew gum to stave off the munchies!

Oops! Spelling correction: I meant to type “irresistible”… not irresistable. (Either way, pizza is hard to resist. But I’d rather see the scale registering a 17-pound weight loss!)

Nice that your husband’s efforts were the feature for this sweepstakes. Enter me with a resounding cheer for Brian and his success. I find the most successful efforts at losing weight are by avoiding sugar and cutting down on bread and starches, eating smaller portions of healthy foods, breaking down daily intake into more frequent meals, and taking regular exercise (such as swimming 3x a week or walking more each day). My breakfast might include items such as a serving of oatmeal and 6 ounces of plain yogurt with fresh lemon or lime squeezed in with the pulp, or some fresh berries, plus a little sweetener, or having a cup of a savory veggie broth and quinoa mixture, or a hard-cooked egg and a half a whole-wheat bagel. I also try to have one or more raw vegetables each morning (I’m especially fond of things like raw snow peas or baby spinach with breakfast), and a piece of whole fruit a little after. I use a lot of fresh and steamed veggies at meals and some fish and chicken or turkey, very little beef, and no pork. I avoid margarine and white flour, as well. Not so sure about relying regularly on processed “low-calorie” sweet substitutions for meals in order to lose weight, but a Fiber One bar now and then is an option that can’t hurt. As for highly caloric temptations… if one gives in and indulges in a slice or two of pizza, enjoy yourself… but be sure to mop up the excess oil before devouring those irresistable slices.

We use small plates at dinner; it looks like you have more on your plate. Don’t skip breakfast. Have a buddy join you at the fitness center. We also added a spin class to our routine.

I stopped buying potato chips (my kryptonite!) and other fattening snacks. I realized my meals are healthy and pretty low cal – it’s the snacks that add up!
