Midsummer Rose Junk Journal
Hey, everyone! Jane Chipp of Willow Blue Vintage, one of our amazing Junk Journal Design Team Members, created a fabulous Midsummer Rose Junk Journal for us this week. As you know, we feature one new Junk Journal project each week created by one of our creative team of artists. Our Design Team Members select from the 100’s of Vintage Image Bundles on our Premium Membership Site, for their creations, in order to show you beautiful ways to use those images. We hope you will be totally inspired by this series!
Therefore, please make sure you check out the video tour at the bottom of the page…please scroll all the way down to see it. Are you ready to be inspired? I will step out of the way and let Jane tell you all about her lovely project…
This month’s journal was very much influenced by the view from my studio window. It was mid-June when I started making the journal and the roses in my garden were stunning this year…so much so that I decided to make a rose themed journal. When the Cottage Wallpaper bundle was released a few weeks ago, I knew that I had to use it and so this was the perfect opportunity.
I made a simple cover from old card and covered it with one of the printable pages from the Cottage Wallpaper bundle; it’s a beautiful dusty pink background with white rose sprigs. I printed it on some newsprint paper which has a slightly grey tone and gave it a nicely muted look.
I made two signatures which are stitched into the spine and the spine has antique silk covering it. The signatures are made up of lots of vintage ephemera as well as several journal page printables.
The inside front and back covers are made from a vintage music sheet entitled ‘Wonderful World of Love’. I lightly painted some white gesso on to it and then printed two of the rose images from the Cottage wallpaper bundle. I then added some paint and they look absolutely gorgeous!
In the printables section in the Roses and Bees bundle there are sheets of postcards in a variety of sizes. The images are beautiful handwritten postcards with roses added on top. These were perfect to put in tuck spots. As always, the Graphics Fairy make life easy for us and there is a printable sheet of postcard backs with exactly the same layout so I printed two of these to use as the backs for the rose postcards with no need to resize any of the images. I added some hand painted roses to the postcards, and in several other places throughout the journal.
I made a tag using some of the Cottage Wallpaper images and added a painting of a rose on an old teabag (this will be a future tutorial for Premium members).
My preference when making journals is to have a limited color palette. For this one I kept to dusty pinks, greens and pale aqua colors as well as the various shades of the vintage papers that I used.
MIDSUMMER ROSE JUNK JOURNAL SHOW & TELL VIDEO TOUR
Let’s take a tour of it together:
The bundles that I used were:
- Cottage wallpaper
- Ephemera Romance
- Roses and Bees
- Victorian Rose Scraps
I also used various printable journal pages which I found by using the filters and searching through the printables. I added a few extra rose images that I found on the free part of the site as well; there were lots of beautiful old postcards with Roses on.
I hope this journal has given you some ideas for using these fabulous bundles. Thanks for reading.
I will be listing this journal on Wednesday 21 July 2021 in my Etsy shop https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/WillowBlueVintage

I am seriously in love with this gorgeous journal. Everything about it grabs my attention and holds it. I love rose images and the colors you chose to stick to throughout the journal. The uniformity is both restful and inspirational. Congratulations on a winner, (in my book!!)
