My name is Jennifer Carroll from Celebrating Everyday Life with Jennifer Carroll and I am so excited to be sharing this oh so sweet and simple shadowbox art project with you today! I’m a huge fan of Karen’s and am constantly delighted and inspired by the beautiful images that she shares on her site. Recently she uploaded this “Miss Spring” image, part of a four seasons set she’s been sharing over the last year, and I was instantly smitten by this adorable illustration. The colors are perfect for my home so I knew I wanted to do something special with it. The simple act of the girl “hanging laundry” is so endearing and I thought it would be cute to mimic that in how I display the print, and how better to do that then with a shadowbox?!
I added a few more bits of ephemera and a paper background to tie it all together and voila! a vintage inspired piece of art, a perfect addition to brighten my workspace for Spring! Here’s what I did:
{SUPPLIES I USED}
- Shadowbox Frame
- “Miss Spring” illustration
- Scrapbook paper for background
- A small piece of twine + map pins
- Mini clothespins
- Paper crafting embellishments
- Manilla tag + bird stamp
- glue dots and double-sided tape
{Step One}
Trim your decorative scrapbook paper to the same size as the back of your frame. Place a piece of double-sided tape in each corner to attach the paper to the backing.
{Step Two}
Determine the placement of your “clothesline” and attach a map pin on each interior side of your shadowbox.
{Step Three}
Trim your twine to your desired length and then tie a loose loop in the end. Then you can easily slide the loop over the pin and tighten gently so you don’t pull out your pin. Repeat on the other side.
{Step Four}
Attach your art and any ephemera you desire with tiny clothespins.
{Step Five}
Attach your additional ephemera to the background with glue dots (not shown) then place glass frame over the background and secure as directed (mine had little metal clasps I just had to bend back over the back of the frame).
And now, enjoy your art!
I hope you like my interpretation and presentation of the Miss Spring illustration and will put your own spin on it!
