Naturalist’s Junk Journal
Hey guys, once again one of our fabulous Junk Journal Design Team Members, Lynne Morgado, has created a fabulous junk journal for us. She shares her incredible Naturalist’s Junk Journal with you! Each week we spotlight another Mixed Media project, created by one of the amazing Designers on our team. The designers are tasked to use images from our Premium Membership Site to provide inspiration for your own projects. Be sure to check out her Show and Tell Video below. Please scroll down to the end of this post to see her video. Be prepared to be inspired! I will now allow Lynne to tell you all about her art in her own words…
Hello again everyone. I hope you are all doing well. I am so excited to share with you my June Design Team junk journal project. This journal is all about insects and who doesn’t love bugs?? I created a standard size traveler’s notebook. I keep going back to this size journal. I just love creating them. This journal was completely inspired by the Entomologist’s Field Guide Bundle. I imagine the journal belonged to a naturalist explorer who studied insects and I wanted the journal to look and feel well loved & well traveled. This journal has been everywhere in the search for interesting insects.
To create the worn cover I found a book cover image in the Coffee & Cream Ephemera Bundle that works perfectly. The marbled cover is also amazingly grungy and worn and that is from the Book Covers & Tintypes Bundle.
I layered some cheesecloth between the covers and added lots of sari silk ribbons to page edges for texture and interest and pops of color.
A naturalist journal needs labels and the sheet of labels from the Entomologist Field Guide Bundle that I printed on to sticker paper and used quite a bit throughout the journal.
Other labels that I use quite a lot in my projects are from both the Vintage Office Supplies Bundle & the French Journal Cover Sheet printable.
To create paper “specimens” I used both vintage glassine pockets and tea dyed glassine envelopes to hold assorted insect images that can be seen through the glassine.
One of the Fern Gift Tags became a belly band to tuck ephemera into inside the back cover. That tag can be found in the Printables section in the “Tags” category.

Gorgeous entomologist’s journal. Love the antiqued/grungy feel of it. It does truly feel like it has traveled a lot of miles in search of insects.
