Nature Inspired Junk Journal
Hi everyone. Sheena, from Luna Rozu, one of our amazing NEW Junk Journal Design Team Members, created a fabulous Nature Inspired Junk Journal for us this week. As you know, we feature one new Junk Journal project each week created by one of our creative team of artists. Our Design Team Members select from the 100’s of Vintage Image Bundles on our Premium Membership Site, for their creations, in order to show you beautiful ways to use those images. We hope you will be totally inspired by this series!
Please make sure you check out the video tour at the bottom of the page…please scroll all the way down to see it. Are you ready to be inspired? I will step out of the way and let Sheena tell you all about her lovely project…
Hello again fellow crafters! This is Sheena from Luna Rozu and I’m back once again to showcase my last junk journal for 2019. Since I’ve already done a Christmas one, I figured I might create a nature themed one this time around to welcome the new year and celebrate new beginnings and growth.
For this month, I played around with a B6 size notebook – which is slightly larger than a passport size. I haven’t done this size in ages but once I found a pre-made cover from the Blank Paper Ephemera bundle, I knew I found the perfect one! The one I chose is one with yellow florals and a dark border (right page below) because I wanted that field notes look.
Also, if this is your first time creating a junk journal, I would highly recommend the botanical or nature theme. The Graphics Fairy Premium Membership site has thousands of beautiful vintage images plus pre-made ones so you need not feel overwhelmed. Working with florals is also a great way to learn about complimentary colors especially if you’re working on a very specific theme the next time around.
For the inside of my journal, I chose from the wide selection of ephemera pieces to create tuck pots. As I really wanted to try and stick to the vintage look, I have chosen images that are fall-themed colors – yellow, brown, dark green, deep reds and so fort – from the Marble End Papers, Ephemera Collection and Woodland Walk bundles.
I’ve also realized that plaid patterns go really well with any vintage themed so I was absolutely ecstatic when I found out The Graphics Fairy Premium Membership site just released a Scottish Highlands bundle with a tartan plaid image in both green and red! I layered mine with botanical and ephemera with a bit fabric. You could also find another variation of the plaid pattern in the Farmer’s Market bundle.
There are no rules when it comes to creating art so you could essentially use any image to craft whichever part of your journal. In the image below (left page), I have used one of the pre-made bookmarks from the Antique Title Pages bundle as a sidebar pocket. Add a bit of fabric and button to complete that vintage look – easy peasy!

Finally, the last step is to fill your tuck spots and pockets with the endless variety of ephemera printables – my favourite part of journal making! For this journal, I’ve included botanical and nature illustrations and receipts from the Wildflower Field Guide, French Attic Ephemera, Fall Colors Ephemera and Lotus & Waterlilies bundle.
