Christmas holidays is my favourite time of the year! I always get very excited when opening again that
special Christmas box full of holiday supplies that is stored away the rest of the year! So the idea of creating a Christmas journal came naturally for this November project and was an obvious
choice for me during this time of the year.
After deciding it would be a Christmas journal, I had to pick a colour scheme to work with. The Graphics Fairy offers lots of different beautiful Christmas bundles and plenty of design options to choose from. This stunning cover from a 19th century french book, with its bright red, green and golden details, heIped me pick the style of Christmas I went for. A traditional Christmas journal.
To add more room to journal and craft in this book , I extended its spine and reinforced it with book
binding tape and several layers of fabrics including some old french flax linen. In total there are 7 signatures that are a mix of both original pages that were initially bound in the book
and signatures I created with vintage french papers and Graphics Fairy designs.
Including some of the original text block back to the journal is an idea I’ve seen some junk jounal artists
doing on social media and I thought it is a great way to repurpose some of these old book pages and give
more character to the book.
The pages have to be strong enough to hold the second binding and be collaged on top of. Throughout the journal I left enough space to make it a writing journal.
The initial book pages can also be used for writing by either putting a thin coat of gesso or white acrylic paint on top. You can also create some artistic layouts by collaging paper bits and images.
I also made sure to add some additionnal writing spots by creating some journaling cards with some of
the Graphics Fairy designs that I backed with recycled paper, such as junk mail paper, wrapping paper etc.
I hope you enjoy this Christmas project and that you have a wonderful holiday with your loved ones.
