Paris Junk Journal
Hey, everyone! Jennifer Carroll of Celebrating Everyday Life, one of our amazing Junk Journal Design Team Members, created a fabulous Paris Junk Journal for us this week. As you know, we feature one new Junk Journal project each week created by one of our creative team of artists. Our Design Team Members select from the 100’s of Vintage Image Bundles on our Premium Membership Site, for their creations, in order to show you beautiful ways to use those images. We hope you will be totally inspired by this series!
Therefore, please make sure you check out the video tour at the bottom of the page…please scroll all the way down to see it. Are you ready to be inspired? I will step out of the way and let Jennifer tell you all about her lovely project…
Today let’s take a trip to Paris together! Let’s wander along the cobblestone streets, and gaze at the beautiful scenery of Paris in bloom with this month’s Junk Journal. Inspired by favorite films including Sabrina and Funny Face with Audrey Hepburn this journal is an ode to all sweet French afternoons lingering and gazing out at the Seine.
I was inspired to make this journal by the Vintage Paris bundle in the Premium Members section of the Graphics Fairy website.
I love going through all the bundles and finding inspiration to create something special. And this month, the Paris bundle struck my fancy. After all, “Paris is always a good idea!”
And if you can’t get enough of all things Francais, you’ll be delighted to know that this bundle is merely the tip of the Eiffel Tower of French goodies you’ll find in the premium site. There is ephemera galore!
I used the Eiffel Tower image from the Vintage Paris bundle as the base of the cover and then collaged some cheery flowers and added some gilding that I gleaned from one of the book covers in the database. If you’d like to learn more about creating collages like this, definitely check out the tutorial section in the members area, learning how to extract and blend images like this opens up a whole new world of design possibilities!
I also explored some of the other ready made printables in the site and found these beautiful, ready to go, flower papers. I printed 10 of them as double-sided sheets so that I had 5, double sided pages for this journal. They are in delicious pastel hues which set just the right tone for my French floral fantasy!
To fill out the other pages of the journal, I added some hand-dyed papers that I made with coffee, beet juice and green tea. Dyed papers like this always add lots of texture which I like.
I also mixed in some sheet music, ledger pages, a doily… just some little odds and ends which keep the journal from feeling boring. Heaven forbid!
And then comes the fun part – the embellishing! Lots of ribbons used for pockets, and bookmarks and page trims. I love journals that are just spilling out – I always feel more creative with these types of notebooks. I like to use some crochet style ribbons too because they make it easy to add charms in some places. In this journal I’ve added a pink cameo style floral charm as well as a miniature Eiffel Tower one too.
I also downloaded several other printables from within the site including bookmarks, cards, vintage photos, and more to tuck in the pages. Miniature bookmarks and washi tape help hold them in place. And finally I went wild with my flower sticker collection. If you don’t have a sticker collection, never fear, there are tons of floral images on the site that you could print on sticker or label paper to make your own versions. So easy and yet they make such a difference in adding whimsy to the pages.
I kept this journal a little smaller than some others I’ve made because I plan to use it as a dream and prayer journal and want it to tuck in my purse to go with me as needed. It was nice to make one a little smaller this time because it came together faster, but I see that I’ll still enjoy it just as
much as the other ones I’ve made.
