Pastel Pages Junk Journal
Hey, everyone! Jane Chipp of Willow Blue Vintage, one of our amazing Junk Journal Design Team Members, created a fabulous Pastel Pages Junk Journal for us this week. As you know, we feature one new Junk Journal project each week created by one of our creative team of artists. Our Design Team Members select from the 100’s of Vintage Image Bundles on our Premium Membership Site, for their creations, in order to show you beautiful ways to use those images. We hope you will be totally inspired by this series!
Therefore, please make sure you check out the video tour at the bottom of the page…please scroll all the way down to see it. Are you ready to be inspired? I will step out of the way and let Jane tell you all about her lovely project…
My favorite type of journals are those with lots of different papers, textures, random ephemera and old photographs. I wanted to create a fairly neutral base, i.e. with no particular theme, and so I decided to focus on using the numerous patterned papers on the Premium Site to create interesting pages. I made the basic journal pages and then had fun adding bits with stitch and collage whilst snuggled up on the sofa on the cold winter evenings. The cover is made from pieces of antique silk that I pieced together and embellished with hand stitch (there will be a tutorial soon on the Premium site showing how I made it).
The front page of the journal has an image from the Endless Skies bundle layered over a photograph and with hand stitch added.
I wanted to keep a fairly pale color palette and so used several prints from the Pink and Grey Ephemera and Pink and Red Ephemera bundles.
I have a batch of large photographs that are too big for most projects so I used some of them as journal pages. This one is twinned with a print from the Pink and Grey Ephemera bundle printed on glassine paper.
The center pages have a selection of original ephemera on a pastel grey background.
I printed some of the Blank Ephemera bundle prints onto different types of paper. Here is a piece of ledger paper printed on rice paper with some graph paper printed on tracing paper behind it. I used some washi tape from the printables in various places. I added encaustic wax in places which gives a beautiful sheen and great texture.
I combined various patterned prints with script ephemera printed on tissue paper so that the patter showed through. This page also has a photograph and some painted silk added for texture.
I printed this fabric print onto an old encyclopedia page and added a photo, silk and stitch.
I printed a Vintage Paperie print and an Endless Skies print onto tracing paper to make these glassine pockets.
A print from the Pastel Wallpaper bundle was used here to contrast with the sepia photo and glassine print.
I used one of the patterned papers from the Pink and Grey Ephemera printables for the background on this page and added a photograph with the people cut out to make negative space. I added a fragment of another print from the same bundle of pink flowers printed on tissue paper.
I couldn’t resist adding one of my favourite Graphics Fairy images…the nun who has appeared in several of my journals, layered with tissue prints from the Vintage Pattern bundle and birds in flight.
