Pearl Junk Journal
Hey everyone. Design Team member Anna Hollingworth of Leximbue Journals created a fabulous Pearl Junk Journal for us this week. As you know, we feature one new Junk Journal project each week created by one of our creative team of artists. Our Design Team Members select from the 100’s of Vintage Image Bundles on our Premium Membership Site, for their creations, in order to show you beautiful ways to use those images. We hope you will be totally inspired by this series! Therefore, please make sure you check out the video tour at the bottom of the page…please scroll all the way down to see it. Are you ready to be inspired? I will step out of the way and let Anna tell you all about her wonderful project…
This gorgeous printable of an old book cover is what attracted me to create a journal about the sea. I included mysteries and beauties one can find in the depths of the oceans and shores. I painted the spine and the back of the cover the same deep green of the book cover printable. I added gold gilding wax and blended it all together so that I could give the book this vintage look. The cover comes from La Mer bundle.
From this same bundle, I added the endpapers and the cover page. I especially loved the cover page, a vintage frame of corals and shells and all sorts of luscious mages which have printed beautifully on the coffee dyed paper.
From the Ocean Blues Ephemera bundle, I added the worn navy blue cover and made a mini booklet by sewing it front and back, creating a book within a book and adding a couple of pages inside which I decorated with a collage of ephemera. I attached an octopus which I had previously fussy cut. I love this effect, it makes it look almost real.
Mermaids from The Mermaid’s Cove bundle have been cut and added onto the page, giving it an extra dimension. There is a disc attached to a tiny brad so that it can rotate on the page.
On this page I have sewn a pocket from the Seaside Holiday bundle and I have added ephemera from this bundle inside. I have also attached a coaster collage onto the pocket and a lovely quote from the La Mer bundle.
Here, I have created a collage with different elements from the sea, sewn together. On the other page, there is a giant shell, which I covered with acetate and sewed onto the page, creating a vibrant pocket.
A mermaid page features here, with a large shell which is used as a tuck spot, filled with ephemera. I particularly love the ephemera from the Creatures of the Deep bundle. The colours are vibrant greens and blues, yet they have a vintage feel about them. I have used a lot of the ephemera from this bundle throughout the journal.
A black and white nostalgic seaside frame that I have sewn onto the page, with an acetate cover serves as a pocket/frame. I have slipped an image of a mermaid inside. The frame comes from the Mermaid’s Cove bundle.
I have created another collage of selected ephemera from various bundles here, including Mini French Ephemera, Vintage Office Supplies and Mini Planner Icons.
I hope you love this journal as much as I do. It is a pearl of seaside nostalgia, a world of peace where nature is at its best!
