Earlier this week I found out that there’s a good possibility that we will be having some out of town family members staying with us over Thanksgiving weekend. We rarely have guests… maybe my parents every once in awhile, but never my husband’s family and I’m a little nervous about it. I’m not much of a cook and I was also wondering what the heck we would do to entertain them! We’ve got Thanksgiving day covered, as some of our local family will be cooking for that, but it’s the other days that I’m worried about.
I called my friend Lisa, who’s a great cook and has awesome ideas, and we came up with a plan! First we put a Pinterest board together and started pinning some ideas. You can find that board here: {Insert Pinterest Board Link} We ended up coming up with a fun idea for a Photo Vintage Scavenger Hunt to keep the family entertained! (More on that at the bottom of the post) Later, I stopped by her house and she showed me how to make a Quick and Easy Healthy Dinner that the whole family will be sure to enjoy. The Recipe is Ranch Style Chicken Fajitas adapted from a Recipe that we found on the Hidden Valley® Original Ranch® Website! Ingredients:
- 1 Pound Boneless Skinless Chicken Breast
- 1 Packet of Hidden Valley® Original Ranch® Salad Dressing & Seasoning Mix
- 1/2 teaspoon black Pepper
- 1/4 Cup Vegetable oil
- 6 Flour Tortillas
- 3 Limes (Juice)
- Desired Toppings
- Desired Vegetables
First we combined the Oil, Lime Juice, Pepper and Seasoning Mix. Then poured it over the Chicken to marinate. The Hidden Valley® Original Ranch® Salad Dressing & Seasoning Mix really spices it up! Meanwhile we cut up the Vegis. You could use Green Peppers, Onions, Hot Peppers, whatever you like. We cooked them up in a skillet with a little oil. Once the Chicken was done marinating (an hour or more) we cooked that up in the pan as well…. browning it on the outside and making sure it was cooked until done on the inside. Can you see the spices? We totally Hidden Valleyed It! I wish you could smell this dish!! We added some chopped Tomatoes, Grated Cheese, Sour Cream and Salsa. Doesn’t it look so beautiful? And it was super tasty too! I can totally make this at home on my own and I know our guests will love it! Problem number one solved! Next we came up with a plan for the Vintage Scavenger Hunt! Here are some ideas for putting your own Vintage Scavenger Hunt together:
- Decide on a location. You’ll want to pick some place that has a lot of great old stuff, but you’ll want to select a place that has plenty of room and has a laid back atmosphere. Think Barn Sales or Fun hip shops. Do not plan this in a china shop or a fine antique store!! 😉
- Decide if you will be competing as singles or pairing up into couples or small teams.
- If you are bringing the kiddos along, make sure you do not leave them unattended.
- All of the teams will need a camera (smart phones work great) to photograph the items that they find.
- Make a List of 10- 20 items that everyone should find. Some examples are….
Antlers… Antique Typewriters… Old Sleds… Vintage Sewing Items. 6. Mix up the list as far as easy to find items and harder to find items. But don’t make it sooo crazy specific that it would be impossible to find. For Example…. Do not ask them to find a Reindeer, driving an Old Studebaker, while smoking a cigarette and wearing a flannel robe. That would just be ridiculous! Nobody would ever find that… {Photo from Old Lucketts Store}What the what?!!! Ok well … um. Another example would be to Not ask them to find a Life Sized Santa, riding a Bicycle while camping out in a Vintage Aqua Camper. That’s just Not something that you would ever, EVER find! What?!! Ok, so clearly you never know what you mind find! Haha! Now back to the tips…. 7) Next review the photos of all the teams to determine who won. 8) And lastly, come up with a prize for the winner. I think this Vintage Trophy would make a pretty awesome prize! 9) Then head on home and feed your family a tasty meal, like the Fajitas we made above, and talk about all the fun things you found!
