Potting Shed Junk Journal
Hey, everyone! Kate Stevens of Pixie K Designs, one of our amazing Junk Journal Design Team Members, created a pretty Potting Shed Junk Journal for us this week. As you know, we feature one new Junk Journal project each week created by one of our creative team of artists. Our Design Team Members select from the 100’s of Vintage Image Bundles on our Premium Membership Site, for their creations, in order to show you beautiful ways to use those images. We hope you will be totally inspired by this series!
Therefore, please make sure you check out the video tour at the bottom of the page…please scroll all the way down to see it. Are you ready to be inspired? I will step out of the way and let Kate tell you all about her incredible project…
I am excited but also a little sad to be showing you my final design team project for the Graphics Fairy. Introducing the Potting Shed journal, created using the Seed Catalogue bundle from the premium site. This journal is a grungy scruffy style of journal reminiscent of something you might find in a garden potting shed. A well-used and slightly battered journal for taking notes, writing observations, storing clippings and referring to for general planting and gardening information.
It is a hard cover journal made with heavy board and covered with hand painted fabric. It has a 2.5-inch spine and 9 signatures sewn into a hidden hollow back binding.

I wasn’t going for “pretty” with this journal, so I used a rich brown and coffee dyed cheese cloth with a piece of old linen and a rusty key. The key is representative of the potting shed key and is a lovely big vintage key that I have been saving for a project such as this. On the inside of the cover I have used a printable from the delicate end papers bundle and I love how they have a layered and crumpled look to them. I have used a vintage envelope as a pocket which has a large tag inside made from one of the beautiful images from the Seed Catalogue bundle.
I have used several of the printable pages from the bundle and I have used coffee, white gesso and cream acrylic paint to age and distress all the pages throughout the journal.
I have made large pockets out of several of the images in the bundle which remind me of seed packets/envelopes. The first of these pockets houses the seed catalogue tag I created for tag team Friday last month.
I used a left-over piece of an image to create this tuck spot and love how it gives some bright color to the mostly neutral grungy journal. I love how this little paper bag flip turned out using this rich marigold image with the vegetable tags tucked inside.
As well as using the tag printables I have also printed out and included two of the file folder printables which I have lined with paper for extra journaling space.
One of my favourite things I made to go with the journal is this writing board. This is one of my favourite images from the bundle and it’s the first writing board I have made.
Along with the journal and writing board I have also included a little bundle of envelopes. Mainly made from images from the bundle and filled with little extra pieced of vintage ephemera and tied with brown string.
I loved creating this grungy potting shed journal and working with this beautiful digital bundle. I hope you will come and watch the flip through over on my YouTube channel.
