Vintage Sheet Music Drawer Liners

Here’s the before photo of the vanity. It really wasn’t bad the way it was. Originally I was going to bring it to the swap, just like it is, but then at the last minute I panicked. What if it’s not Swanky enough?!! Yikes! And out came the paint and the brush and there was no stopping me then.
I added a carved furniture applique and some glass knobs. And then Mod Podged the drawers, with my new bottle of acid free “Paper Mod Podge” (Good Stuff!), and some old sheet music. I guess it was Swanky enough, because it was the first item picked at the Swap! Yay!

This ranks as one of my favorite ideas of the year! We’re going to do it on a smaller scale and make decoupage ornaments with sheet music!

KittyBriton,
Thank you for your comment. I agree that these old documents should be preserved, for future generations. I will say that the sheet music that I scanned as a printable, was not the same music that I put in the drawer. Inside the drawer I used music from 1949, not very old or rare in my opinion. I would never use old or rare pieces in my creations, that’s why I scan these things and typically print out copies to use instead. In this case I did use the vintage stuff, because I had a big book of it, that’s falling apart, and the fact that it was from a more recent time period was a huge factor.
I appreciate you taking the time to express your point of view!

I hope I can say what I think needs to be said without being disparaging; yes, the drawer becomes much more interesting with the musical liner. And thank you for making the PDF available.
But, no matter how schmalzy or commonplace the musical score might seem, don’t overlook its value as a document! I feel the same way about the proposal (elsewhere) that books should be turned into picture frames, or boxes. Believe it or not, there are people to whom these things are interesting for their documentary content. And I have heard too many heartbreaking stories (at least, for a scholar) of texts (including musical scores) dismissed as worthless because someone could not read them. If the original is damaged in some way that makes it unusable as a document, I have less of a problem with re-purposing, but even so, I would urge caution!
I’m sorry! I don’t mean to damp anyone’s creativity, so please, make copies and age them artificially, but don’t use prints that might be a last surviving copy.

I thought you were going to cover the entire table with music sheets – that would be uber cool, tool. Love this project. No wonder this table was the first to sell!

Brilliant idea–I’d smile whenever I opened the drawer.

Thanks always for the downloads. How well you did to “swank” up that desk. Love the idea of sheet music as a drawer liner.
