Ruby Red Junk Journal
Hey, everyone! Heather Naggy of Ruby and Pearl xo, one of our amazing Junk Journal Design Team Members, created a fabulous Ruby Red Junk Journal for us this week. As you know, we feature one new Junk Journal project each week created by one of our creative team of artists. Our Design Team Members select from the 100’s of Vintage Image Bundles on our Premium Membership Site, for their creations, in order to show you beautiful ways to use those images. We hope you will be totally inspired by this series!
Therefore, please make sure you check out the video tour at the bottom of the page…please scroll all the way down to see it. Are you ready to be inspired? I will step out of the way and let Heather tell you all about her lovely project!
Hello Everyone! This month I am sharing my December design team project for The Graphics Fairy premium membership site. I used an antique book for the cover. I absolutely love the ruby red color of this old book. I added a gorgeous vintage rhinestone bracelet as part of the journal closure. I love the sparkle on the red! I used that same beautiful red color as my inspiration for many of the pages on the inside too . I don’t usually choose red very much when I am creating, but I really love the way this journal came together. I especially love red roses as they remind me of my grandfather.
I think it is important when we are creating to use symbolism in our art. There are many items inside my journals that I choose that have meaning to me, like the red roses. Most everyone wouldn’t know the meaning behind these things, unless I say, but I do believe the energy of that emotion gets passed on in our art. I encourage you to put little bits that mean something to you in your journals. I also really love doves, and they remind me of my other Grandfather, so you
will see me use them a lot in my artwork. If you start to do this, I promise you it will make your journal all the more special to you.
The spine on this old book was not going to be large enough, because as you know when we start to make our junk journals, they tend to get chunky quickly! I decided to extend the spine with some gorgeous silk velvet to accommodate the pages of my journal. I was so inspired by my lovely art friend Maria, as I have seen her extend the spine many times with old books. I find it fascinating because I really love using old books as my covers and with this process you can
create a journal from an existing book to hold as many pages as you like. On the inside of this journal, I used many beautiful typography pages from the Premium site. I adore the selection of beautiful French papers and script writing available. I challenged myself to use many of the Graphics Fairy images as my actual pages and I love the result. I really love the selection of old sheet music available too, because to me this is a staple in creating a junk
journal. I use it for pages, tags or backgrounds so often.
I also mixed in many of my vintage wallpapers that I love so much. I don’t think you will find a journal from me that doesn’t have some type of old wallpaper in it. I also added many vintage ladies, as they are my favorite too. I love the image from the Emma bundle with the 2 ladies reading. I have been waiting to use that image for just the right journal. 🙂 I paired it with one of the gold tin type frames from the Book Covers & Tin Types bundle. I love how beautiful the two
look together.
