Seamstress Notebook Junk Journal
Hey, everyone! Rhonda Ellzey of Joy Junktique, one of our amazing Junk Journal Design Team Members, created a fabulous ‘Seamstress Notebook Junk Journal’ for us this week. As you know, we feature one new Junk Journal project each week created by one of our creative team of artists. Our Design Team Members select from the 100’s of Vintage Image Bundles on our Premium Membership Site, for their creations, in order to show you beautiful ways to use those images. We hope you will be totally inspired by this series!
Therefore, please make sure you check out the video tour at the bottom of the page…please scroll all the way down to see it. Are you ready to be inspired? I will step out of the way and let Rhonda tell you all about her incredible project…
Hi, there… I’m Rhonda from JOYjunktique. And I’m so grateful for the opportunity to be sharing this Seamstress Notebook as my Design Team Project for the Graphics Fairy Premium Membership site. I created a notebook that holds all the things that a seamstress might refer to. I used mostly the Sewing Ephemera kit, the Sewing and Needlework kit, and the Jane Austen
Embroidery kit.
I found this cover image in the Lacemaker kit and knew it had to be my cover. I printed it on cardstock and reinforced it by lining it with Amazon packaging and some muslin fabric.
I added a very old vintage remnant piece of lace to the edge, and then I stitched around the border. I added fabric, lace, and tatting remnants to the spine to give a well-loved feel. I scored the extension of the cover so that it wrapped around the signature to close. A needle is looped through cotton string that is attached with eyelets and an old button to tie the journal closed. I also attached a small pouch with ephemera to the back cover by running a very old piece of measuring tape through the pouch opening.
The precious little handmade flower was made by my young granddaughter.
I used old fabric remnants throughout the journal to add beautiful texture. Inside the front and back covers, I attached a vintage crocheted doily that serves as pockets for ephemera. The first
page is a beautiful cotton fabric doily remnant that holds a cute sewing machine charm. There are several sewing-themed charms, that I aged to look old, scattered all throughout the pages of
the journal.
I stitched lace pieces and trims to various pages to display their beauty and add interest. I also stitched some fun decorative stitches and bits of lace on the tags that tuck into the journal. I love
how this old photo looks when showcased with the frame and embellishments.
I did some stenciling with paste and attached this cute tag with a rusty safety pin. The “Notes” page is from the Sewing Ephemera kit.
I added more dimension by embossing the pocket on this coffee-dyed page and these ladies fashion tags. I love that they look like fabric! Some gathered fabric and some buttons held on with an old rusty bulb pin give a nice detail. The opposite lace page is from an old hand-stitched embroidery piece.
This page was created from a vintage pattern piece that I folded up to create lots of pockets and tuck spots filled with ephemera. And the ticking sewn onto this page highlights the cute heart
stitches and the sweet embossed tag. A large button is sewn onto the fabric page that was made from an old tablecloth.
A lace belly band holds this large journaling tag that is accented with a ruffle made of old pattern tissue paper, more heart stitches, and a ticking tab. The lace doily was made using a die cut.
The next page peeking through is an old French fabric receipt I found on the website.
I created a belly band with the embellished dress form where this tiny envelope tucks. Inside the envelope is a folded ribbon card with pins and a needle.
These images made this spread beautiful and paired nicely with the next page that’s made from the instructions of an old sewing pattern.
A clear acrylic sheet sewn to the back of the old pattern instruction page makes see-through pockets to hold these embroidery patterns from the Jane Austen Embroidery kit and the needlework pattern (printed in black/white) from the Sewing and Needlework kit. I stitched the signature in with brown waxed thread.
Here’s the other side of that French receipt that opens up to some lace pinned inside. The other lace belly band holds a page from the Tattered Treasures 2 kit that looks like fabric samples.
This old vintage sewing machine page is also from the Sewing and Needlework kit. I repurposed the flaps of an envelope found in the Lacemaker kit to create small little pocket pages to hold
lace sample cards and ephemera. The Ribbon and Lace Holders I found on the website were great to wrap the lace trim around. The page behind it has a satin pocket that holds a colorful
accordion fold-out of some Victorian ladies in beautiful dresses from the Jane Austen Embroidery kit.
The inside back cover holds a coin envelope with the dress form image that holds more ephemera. I made a clear ruler using a die cut and added gold wax to the ruler to bring out the detail.
I hope you liked my Seamstress Notebook project. And I hope you were inspired to create lots of beautiful things! Be sure to watch the video to see the full flip-through. Thanks so much for
being here! See you next time!
