Shakespeare Junk Journal
Hey everyone. Design Team member Anna Hollingworth of Leximbue Journals created a fabulous Shakespeare Junk Journal for us this week. As you know, we feature one new Junk Journal project each week created by one of our creative team of artists. Our Design Team Members select from the 100’s of Vintage Image Bundles on our Premium Membership Site, for their creations, in order to show you beautiful ways to use those images. We hope you will be totally inspired by this series! Therefore, please make sure you check out the video tour at the bottom of the page…please scroll all the way down to see it. Are you ready to be inspired? I will step out of the way and let Anna tell you all about her lovely project…
Hello everyone I hope you are having a lovely summer and enjoying your crafting! I would like to introduce you to The Bard. This journal is dedicated to Shakespeare and his wonderful contribution to the world! I was spoiled for choice again with the wealth of images and ephemera offered in the collection of bundles that are on the Graphics Fairy Premium membership site. In my mind, Shakespeare’s works belong inside a red book!
Hence the choice of this cover which comes from the Book Covers and Tintypes bundle. I have created ridges on the spine and the cover has been varnished to create a rustic ‘leather’ effect. I used gold gilding wax to complement the aging and timeless value of a journal.
I made these tabs of Theatrical Characters that are floating on the side of the journal. They were just perfect for this project and I fussy cut them and aged them. I added the remaining of the characters inside a page, creating a bunting effect by attaching them on gold thread.
The endpapers come from the Marbled Endpapers bundle. I printed them on 120 gsm (about 32 lb) ivory paper and they look just like the original marbled papers would have looked. I aged them around to create this vintage look. The colors went very well with the deep red of the cover.
I used quite a few of the Shakespearean Women images which were just perfect of course for this theme.
I created an envelope from the Royalty Images Bundle collaged envelopes which I inserted in this transparent pocket ready to receive one’s treasured thoughts!
The foldout theater plan is waiting there like a surprise for whoever decides to seek it. This page is one of my favorite ones in this journal because it promises the delights for the audience that will be seated there

Anna that was lovely “Old World” Shakespearean journal. I was especially interested in how you constructed your cover. I really like the ridges that had the experience of leather covered ropes on the spine. I too am a fan of marbled papers. It looked so absolutely genuine.
Another question, it appeared to have some of the images like the Shakespearean ladies printed directly on what looks like tea dyed paper…did my eyes deceive me?
So enjoyed the tour…
Leslie

Hi Leslie, Anna is going to be doing a video tutorial on our Premium Membership site, showing how to make that type of cover. If you are a member, then watch for that in the future months! For your second question, you can print on tea dyed paper! I hope you’ll pop back over here tomorrow, as we actually will be posting a Paper Tea Dyeing tutorial tomorrow morning, using a wide variety of Teas!
