Sister Moon Junk Journal
Hey, everyone! Jack Ravi, one of our amazing Junk Journal Design Team Members, created a fabulous Sistre Moon Junk Journal for us this week. As you know, we feature one new Junk Journal project each week created by one of our creative team of artists. Our Design Team Members select from the 100’s of Vintage Image Bundles on our Premium Membership Site, for their creations, in order to show you beautiful ways to use those images. We hope you will be totally inspired by this series!
Therefore, please make sure you check out the video tour at the bottom of the page…please scroll all the way down to see it. Are you ready to be inspired? I will step out of the way and let Jack introduce himself, and tell you all about his incredible project…
Hello, my name is Jack Ravi and I am a collage and mixed media artist. I have always felt a deep connection to the moon, and I wanted to create a little shrine dedicated to the Her, and this little journal is very much that.
I was inspired by the cute little Concertina Prayer Journal in a round tin that Jane Chipp made for a craft tutorial on the Graphics Fairy Premium site and wanted to explore this structure. My tiny journal comes in a round box, which gracefully celebrates the shape of the moon. The pages are all circular, and they are attached to a continuous string, creating a very interactive and multifaceted journal. Inside the lid I created a little shaker using an image of the Three Women Stars, and silver stars.
I used vintage ephemera and endpapers to create a few small circular journals that I machine stitched. These are good journalling spots, but most pages can be used to write or draw on as well.
I wanted to add a couple of non circular pages as well, so I came up with a way of folding rectangular sheets that can open up, but disappear within a round when folded back.
There are some two small buttons that add a little dimension to the journal. The first one is on the first page, and it can be used to easily pick the book from the tin. The second one is a mother of pearl button that looks like a full moon in a nightscape image.
I also created some small pockets to contain an original vintage photograph, a tag created with a vintage playing card and some chain, and a small tassel with a piece of jewellery and embroidery floss.
The bottom of the tin is lined with an image that I aged with tea stains and rust.
The journal was also charged under a full moon night, harnessing all the energy of the moon at its highest.
Let’s take a tour of it together:
