Steampunk Inventors Junk Journal
Hey guys. We are welcoming back one of our former talented Mixed Media Design Team members, Lynne Morgado of Mockingbird and Main, this week! She shares her incredible Steampunk Inventors Junk Journal with you! Each week we spotlight another Mixed Media project, created by one of the amazing Designers on our team. The designers are tasked to use images from our Premium Membership Site to provide inspiration for your own projects. Be sure to check out her Show and Tell Video below. Please scroll down to the end of this post to see her video. Be prepared to be inspired! I will now allow Lynne to tell you all about her art in her own words…
Hello everyone, I’m Lynne from Mockingbird & Main. I am so excited to be back on The Graphics Fairy Junk Journal Design Team. For this first journal I decided to revisit one of my favorite themes: Steampunk. What I love about Steampunk is the fantastical and whimsical nature of it. The 1800’s are so interesting to me and to imagine a world of wonders and inventions that never really existed is so much fun. You can let your imagination fly with Steampunk and I hope this journal will inspire you. With the wide variety of Steampunk as well as 1800’s Victorian images in the Premium Membership bundles the sky really is the limit for this theme.
This journal is called The Inventor’s Guild and belongs to the leader of a group of inventors. They love mechanical devices and flying apparatuses – especially hot air balloons. To give life to the members of this group I used vintage photos from both the Antique Portraits & Antique Portraits 2 Bundles.
As soon as I saw the Altoid Tin Sheet from the Masculine Ephemera bundle I knew they were part of my inventor’s group. I reduced the images just a little and created mini cabinet cards of those 4 gentlemen.
The card player label is also from the Masculine Ephemera bundle. Just the pop of rich colors I needed this grungy journal.
The dog is their mascot and that photo from the Masculine Elements Bundle has a little secret which I will reveal to you in the flip through video.
I wanted to create a more interactive journal because I feel like Steampunk lends itself to that. To that end I created a collaged pocket on the cover, that has some moving parts and secret pockets. Adding in various metal embellishments both on the cover and throughout the journal really adds to the Steampunk look, I think.
I created pockets and journaling ephemera with several of the hot air balloon graphics from the Steampunk Images 2 bundle. They are just beautiful.
The Steampunk Images 3 & Eclectic Steampunk bundles have fabulous digital stamping images that I also used to create a mini journal of images to decorate your pages.
