The Butterfly Collector Junk Journal
Hey, everyone! Amanda Charlesworth of Scrimping Mommy, one of our amazing Junk Journal Design Team Members, created a fabulous Butterfly Collector Junk Journal for us this week. As you know, we feature one new Junk Journal project each week created by one of our creative team of artists. Our Design Team Members select from the 100’s of Vintage Image Bundles on our Premium Membership Site, for their creations, in order to show you beautiful ways to use those images. We hope you will be totally inspired by this series!
Therefore, please make sure you check out the video tour at the bottom of the page…please scroll all the way down to see it. Are you ready to be inspired? I will step out of the way and let Amanda tell you all about her incredible project…
My journal was inspired in the first instance by a picture I saw in the Graphics Fairy tutorials. A designer had used the photo of Frida Kahlo and decorated her hair with flowers. I used the concept to create my journal cover but decided upon butterflies.
I find that having a really striking cover encourages interest from the start. From here I used the search function on the site and simply typed ‘butterflies’. As heaps of images and ready designed pages came up, I was easily able to select a whole host of images to suit my idea.
I like to gather my pages first and created a signature with around 76 pages (19 sheets x 4 sides = 76pages). I like to pick interesting images that I can print in A4 then I can use these as pages, I tend to select around four or five for this. Then I look for ones with lots of detail I can maybe fussy cut to decorate my pages or create my own ephemera.
Once I have the main pages in order I start to decorate. I always incorporate items already in my crafty hoard when making a journal and use digital images to complement and bring a coherent theme.
I love my journals to be different and so downloading individual pages and items from the site ensures that whilst using digital items my work is still unique. If you are able to use photoshop the possibilities for this are vastly increased as you can create utterly unique designs.
I do sell my journals and so having a generic theme whilst creating something different really helps and who doesn’t love butterflies right? it’s a great theme.
Then the site helps me make my work unique and I never make two the same… with so many images to choose from and new bundles and images added every month the possibilities are endless.
Hope you enjoyed my project.
