Hello everyone! This is my second Graphics Fairy design team journal submission! For today’s journal I went back to my roots for this one! I created a very neutral antique sweet little journal
filled with photograph images, authentic victorian laces, antique papers and ephemera. I called it “Timeless Beauty” because of how this style will never be ugly, at least to me! It will be available in my Etsy shop link below. So I was inspired to show the Graphics Fairy viewers my more traditional shabby approach to journal making that originally inspired me to get into making my own journals.
The cover of the book is made from a gorgeous old antique book with faded blue marbled front and back covers. I decided I did not want to take away from the marbled covers by using a beautiful french label backed onto an old Latin 1800’s book page. I attached the 2 book covers together with some very old antique hemp fabric which is nice and sturdy and allowed me to have a very strong soft spine. I then sewed in my 4 signatures into another piece of the exact same hemp fabric then glued it into the inside of the spine. There are 124 pages in total. The journal measures: 6.5” x 4.5.
For the front inside cover, I lined the front cover with a very old french cotton rag paper ledger paper from the early 1800s. I then made a cute little pocket tuck spot using a small label type image from the French Blue and Cream Ephemera bundle. Inside the pocket is a cute picture of a little girl from the membership site backed onto ledger paper. I glued a very old victorian piece of lace to the first page which happened to be an old french manuscript, I then folded down the top of the pocket and hand sewn a handmade bow made with a very old mother of pearl button and some tatting all bundled together for added interest. Inside of the pocket is a blank tag ready to be decorated, an authentic piece of old ephemera and an image of a beautiful young lady backed onto a very old rag paper book page.
I decided to digitally design some journal pages in soft blues & neutral grays, dispersed throughout the journal are also light black touches throughout. On the left is an example of one of the pages I designed myself using Canva! It was quite easy. I simply gathered background images from the Polar Hues bundle then added script, french writing and logo png files with some textured backgrounds.
I used an old french envelope, split it in half and made it the first page of my second signature, here you are seeing the back of the envelope made into a cute shallow pocket with an old french book page. I added some Sam Poole stamping throughout. I then made a super cute antique lace cluster and added a simple small black safety pin to give that industrial chic old french look we all love. I lined the back of the envelope with this wonderful french book page image from the membership site and it has the most beautiful water stains and it looks so authentically old! Tucked inside the pocket is an authentic french antique envelope with cute photographs of victorian children backed onto original ephemera.
I did something super simple here. I just took a blueprint image and printed it onto tracing paper! I loved this effect and look and it added nice depth to the book I think. You can find this image
by searching blueprint within the Premium Membership site!
For this spread I allowed this old antique cutout lace to do all the talking! I glued it onto the 3rd signature page which happens to be an invoice from the free blog site. Tucked in the pocket is a
glassine envelope with some more beautiful old photographs and other items that could be used as tuck spots throughout.
I also wanted to show you guys an example of the blue background journal pages I designed here. It is again from the Polar Hues bundle and I added this beautiful heart floral wreath onto the image changing the transparency and the color of the image to suit the journal neutral soft faded theme.
Here I took this gorgeous blue print image from the Gilded Age bundle and fiddled with the color of it to make it a faded neutral gray image. Just look at that text to the top right. It’s so beautiful
they went so well together with the other pages I designed.
Well everyone, here is the final spread that I wanted you to see as well. It is at the very end of the book. I used an authentic old invoice and lined the back journal cover with it. I added another very old victorian lace as a pocket and did the same folding the top down and adding extra interest with a lacey cluster bundle waterfall style. If you would like to see a more detailed flip through please watch the full length video below!
Thank you so much for reading and watching! I hope to see you over on my channel one day soon!

Lovely. Would you be willing to give us your setting to create: “Here I took this gorgeous blue print image from the Gilded Age bundle and fiddled with the color of it to make it a faded neutral gray image.” Thanks so much.
