Hello, I’m Jennifer Carroll from CelebratingEverydayLife.com and today I’m excited to share my Valentine Junk Journal with you featuring ephemera from The Graphics Fairy Premium Membership site. The kit that I used to make this journal is the Pink & Red Ephemera kit. This kit is not only brimming with such sweet and delightful florals, angles, and other elements but the designers have also created a plethora of printables to go along with it! There is an entire collection of junk journal pages plus bookmarks, heart cards, postage stamps, and circle punches! So much sweetness is one little powerhouse of a bundle! For my journal this month I decided to create a slightly deconstructed journal – meaning I didn’t permanently bind the cover to the inside pages. Instead, I used a simple ribbon binding technique. I like how this allowed me to add extra charm and romance with lace and velvet ribbons to the outside of the journal.
To make the cover I simply took cereal boxes and cut them to size and covered them with a floral fabric I had on hand. I used Beacon’s Fabri-Tac to attach it. That’s my favorite glue for fabric. And then I connected the back and front cover with three short pieces of ribbon, being careful to not make the opening too small – I wanted to leave room for the inside pages to fit easily within the covers.
I embellished the cover with three Mother of Pearl heart-shaped beads and then placed a heart doily, one of the cute angels from the Graphics Fairy Ephemera kit, and a little heart charm which added a nice bit of sparkle. (I used the same Fabri-Tac glue to attach the charm, it’s such a strong glue, it worked great!)
On the inside, I added a little bit of lace trim to hide the seams and soften the edges. I also used a wide crochet ribbon to add a side pocket to the back and front as well. In here I tucked in a couple of elements that I found in the Victorian Valentine’s bundle as well as a bookmark from the Pink and Red Ephemera kit. A gold glitter “X” and “O” add a little extra sparkle with a sweet floral image also from the Victorian Valentine kit.
Inside the journal itself I used a mix of the pre-designed journal pages from the Pink & Red Ephemera kit as well as several hand-dyed pages I made, plus a few fun extras like ledger paper, doilies, a red paper sack, and a page from a David Austin Rose catalog. This mix helps add interest while still giving me lots of space to write, add in inspiring elements, and make the most of the journal.
