Therefore, please make sure you check out the video tour at the bottom of the page…please scroll all the way down to see it. Are you ready to be inspired? I will step out of the way and let Kath introduce herself and tell you all about her incredible project…
Hi everyone! First of all I would like to introduce myself to those of you who don’t know me. I’m Kath aka Journaling Junky and this is my first design team project for The Graphics Fairy and I am so excited to be here. I love anything grungy or Gothic/macabre, so obviously as my first project it had to be Gothic! I have used The Graphics Fairy Premium member site before on many occasions and I am delighted to be a member of the design team.
I’ve called my journal the Vampire’s Lair Junk Journal and it measures 8 ½ inches x 6 inches. I started out by entering a search for gothic images and was presented with an array of fantastic images. I will list all of the collections at the end, if you love gothic, you’ll be amazed at the variety!
This is an image of the front cover with the ribbon fastening removed so that you get a better view of the image. The image is taken from the wonderfully bright and bold Vampire’s Lair collection which is perfect for anyone wishing to create a Gothic-themed journal. I created the cover by using layers of papers and my favourite addition to any journal, coffee dyed cheesecloth. I stitched around the edges of the image and added handmade foam flowers which I painted black and then added a bronze gilding wax. The leaves are die cut from black card and again enhanced with gilding wax. To the corners I also added more die cuts to frame the image.
The first page features a full page French themed journal page that I coffee dyed, added distress inks and sewed around the page. The second, is a page printed out again from the Vampire’s Lair collection (such beautiful deep red richness). The page feature a CD envelope which flips up to reveal a hidden pocket and writing space. The edge of the page is trimmed with a delicate black lace.
The left hand page features a vintage gothic script book page and is embellished with a wonderfully rich red tag. This has been made from coffee dyed paper which has been stamped, distress inked and then the beautiful flower has been fussy cut and added.
For the right hand page, I created a pocket from black card and die cut a frame to which I added gilding flakes and added the image. I also added a beautiful delicate lace to the bottom of the page.
Here, I used a deep red patterned paper as the backing, this is actually a small image which I printed to a full page which didn’t distort in anyway, showing the quality of the digitals. I added torn coffee dyed paper, distress inks and red stitching and my much loved stamp. The right hand page features a decorative page for journaling.
Here, again I have created a frame using a die and lined with acetate. I added die cuts and added a gold wax seal. The large tag was created using an image from the Edgar Allan Poe collection which was mounted onto cardstock and stamped coffee dyed paper.
The right hand page features another tag created from the same collection and is embellished with a webbing fabric.
The middle pages feature a double page print from the Vampire’s Lair collection. I added a large journaling card which was sewn onto coffee dyed paper.
Here I added heavily stencilled coffee dyed paper (I love the gothic script stencil). The raven is a fussy cut image again from the Edgar Allan Poe collection.
The wonderful image of the fearsome woman is also from the Vampire’s Lair collection. This I mounted onto heavily stitched coffee dyed paper, grunge with distress ink. I also added gilding flakes and brass coloured brads. The page is also decorated with black lace and cheesecloth.
This page is decorated with red satin along the edge and added to French script paper, I have used an image from the Medieval musings collection to make a tuck spot.
The page to the right features coffee dyed paper, stencilling and stamping. The pocket is made from torn paper with gilding flakes added along the sides. I have also added another of my favourite stamps. The tag is made from coffee dyed paper and I have stamped an image onto red card. The tag also features various fabrics and lace details for texture.
The small tag is from the Sleepy Hollow collection.
I hope you’ve enjoyed seeing my journal… you can see a flip-through in the video.

Oh Jeri – thank you so much! Those of us who love the marsh seem to be everywhere this week. I am so pleased that you like the journal and very happy to show how lovely the images from the membership site are – and they are actually more than lovely! These images are meticulously prepared just for what we love to do – combine them and overlap them and use them to express our ideas. I think you will be very, very happy with your membership. Hi Jeri, I’m so glad you enjoyed Kathleen’s beautiful journal! One of the bundles that she used was actually inspired by that same book. Such a great read! We look forward to having you join us as a Member!
