4 Vintage Phrenology Head Diagrams
This is an interesting set of old Medical Diagrams and images that I have collected over the years. These are not easy to find, and I hope to add more in the future. But for now I am offering these 4 Vintage Phrenology Head Diagrams. One is a Black and White image, one is in Full Color and the other 2 are shown with their original creamy paper ephemera backgrounds. I hope you enjoy these interesting Scientific type images. These would work great in Steampunk Projects or Possibly even Halloween. We even have a few examples of craft projects that were created using these, so I will link those up in the post as well.
Black and White Vintage Phrenology Head
This is a fabulous Phrenology head diagram from an antique reference book! The book is circa 1880’s. I think this is the best antique black and white one that I have found in my travels! I love the round shape and they way the head itself is depicting a bust. This is a wonderfully detailed engraving. Check out how one of our readers used this image as a Jewelry card to put her handmade earrings on HERE. So creative!
Color Antique Phrenology Head Diagram
I wish I had this one in my collection, but this one was shared by a creative friend. This wonderful full color Antique Phrenology head chart comes from the uber talented Hope Wallace Karney of Paper Relics! She generously offered to share this high resolution scan with me to offer on my blog. How lucky are we that she did?! I think it’s quite striking on the blue colored background. According to the date it’s Circa 1901.
But just in case you need it, there is a second version with out the background. Apparently this shows a perfectly balanced brain as the caption reads “A Picture of Good Health”. I think I could use a brain like that!
Phrenology Head Ephemera
This is one that I’ve had on the blog since the early days, but I have recently re-scanned it at a much Higher Resolution. It’s a Phrenology Head Ephemera piece that I picked up at a flea market. It appears to have been some type of hand out, perhaps it was used in a school. It’s interesting that it uses pictures on the diagram to illustrate the different areas of the brain instead of words or numbers.
This is another one that was scanned quite some time ago on my blog. I think this little Vintage Phrenology Head Clip Art piece may have come out of an Antique Dictionary. I need to find it so that I can re-scan it for you guys, but I haven’t come across it yet. When I do I will upload it again. This scan is not the greatest but maybe you can use it for small projects. I do have an alternative for you though, a couple of black and white versions of this that I created in order to make a quirky Pin Cushion HERE. There is a full tutorial for the project, and a second option where I have replaced the numbers, with craft themed areas of the brain.
I hope you enjoyed this collection of Vintage Phrenology Head images and that you can find some fun uses for them in your projects!
