Vintage Housekeeping Journal
Hey everyone. Design Team member Anna Hollingworth of Leximbue Journals created a fabulous Vintage Housekeeping Journal for us this week. As you know, we feature one new Junk Journal project each week created by one of our creative team of artists. Our Design Team Members select from the 100’s of Vintage Image Bundles on our Premium Membership Site, for their creations, in order to show you beautiful ways to use those images. We hope you will be totally inspired by this series! Therefore, please make sure you check out the video tour at the bottom of the page…please scroll all the way down to see it. Are you ready to be inspired? I will step out of the way and let Anna tell you all about her wonderful project…
I have wanted to create a vintage housekeeping journal for a while. The abundance of bundles on the Premium Membership Site related to this theme had always inspired me and when the Milliner bundle was added, I knew that the time had come!
For the cover of this journal, I searched for a marbled paper book cover and I found this stunning green leather bound book cover from the Peacock Hues Ephemera Bundle. I printed two sides on hammered ivory paper to cover the front and the back of the journal. The spine is made from a piece of vegan leather which was a perfect match for the covers and I added gold gilding wax on the edges and gloss varnish over the images to give it this old time’s authentic feel.
In my opinion, the first page of a journal reflects the content and theme. I added a lace pocket from the Lacemaker bundle and a pastel wallpaper design that I am very fond of from Sage Meadows. The lovely ballerina image in pastel blues and pinks from My Favourite Things reminds me of the horizon at dusk. It is a beautiful card to be tucked inside the pocket of the first page where it can be always enjoyed. The endpapers are from Sage Meadows and they have this nostalgic vibe that runs throughout the journal.
The lady with the impressive hat is from the Milliner bundle. I loved adding the plumes that match her hat, giving the image an extra dimension.
I have added a lot of elements from The Seamstress. I especially loved the advertisement of Irish flax thread with blue shades and a blue feather that complements the lady’s hat.
A peaceful scene of a mother sewing and her child playing with his pets and toys on the floor is a delight to look at. Another lace pocket with the image of a stylish lady adorns the opposite page.
I cut around this delicate rose and distressed the edges to give it extra life and movement. A collection of vintage images of cologne and perfume advertisements on this printout add colour and interest on this page.
The drawing of a conservatory from Chelsea Flower Show is spread over the center of this signature with space on the top and underneath for notes and drawings. I pictured it as an additional element in this lady’s journal where she would list her plants and flowers.
I created a garden scene by adding the image of a garden from Chelsea Flower Show. I added a bench from Black and White Garden. The page comes to life with a basket bursting with colours of delicate flowers. On the opposite page, a wine bottle is chilling while a full glass of wine is awaiting to be enjoyed in the garden.
This journal is a reminder of how simple things can be treasured in life. The thought of a vintage journal being carried around a household and used for jotting down inspired ideas by its owner is so lovely.
