Autumn Splendour Flip-flop Journal
Hey, everyone! Beth Wallen of Beth’s Journal Boutique, one of our amazing Junk Journal Design Team Members, created a fabulous Autumn Splendour Flip-flop Journal for us this week. As you know, we feature one new Junk Journal project each week created by one of our creative team of artists. Our Design Team Members select from the 100’s of Vintage Image Bundles on our Premium Membership Site, for their creations, in order to show you beautiful ways to use those images. We hope you will be totally inspired by this series!
Therefore, please make sure you check out the video tour at the bottom of the page…please scroll all the way down to see it. Are you ready to be inspired? I will step out of the way and let Beth tell you all about her incredible project…
Hi everyone! Beth here from Beth’s Journal Boutique with my August project. I can say, hands down, fall is my favourite season. The colours of the leaves and the crisp, sunny days are just heaven to me; I look forward to it every year. As we start to think about the fall, I wanted to showcase the bundles available on The Graphics Fairy premium site since we are soon going to be working on those fall projects. There are so many bundles on the premium site that were perfect for this project and I have listed the ones I used at the end of this post for you. This project also gave me a chance to dig out and use all of my fun fall-themed trims! For this month, I have created a flip-flop journal. If you follow my work, you know I have been enjoying making these over the past several months and have been itching to do one in a fall colours theme. Let me show you around!
I made this flip flop journal using the same method I shared for my April project; one small envelope for the cover and three larger envelopes for the body of the journal. I collaged vintage papers and the beautiful papers from the Fall Wallpapers bundle for the backgrounds. On the cover I have used a gorgeous image I found by searching “Harvest Images” and added lots of fun layering with trims. I added gold rub n’ buff to edge the image and add some sparkle, along with some aged tape as a finishing, shabby touch. I love seeing all of the layers in a flip flop journal once the papers and trims are added.
The inside of the front envelope was backed with vintage ledger paper and some scraps added to create a little writing pad. On the right side I added some vintage lace to create a pocket and added a journal page from the Pumpkin Patch bundle printed at full size, for a journaling spot.
Having cut the top and bottom of the envelope I used for the cover to create a flip out, I added baking paper pockets on each side with ephemera from several of the bundles.
Here are some of the beautiful images that I have fussy cut to tuck in and use as extra journal spots; they can also be used as extra embellishment throughout the journal. I found these in the Fall Botanicals and the Pumpkin Patch bundles.
The Fall Wallpaper bundle includes different sized envelopes and I have used one the large ones in the centre of two of the signatures. Adding a die cut layered under a metal topper keeps the flaps closed. I have tucked the small envelopes into pockets within the journal.
I have backed this ATC image from the Autumn Song bundle with some kraft paper and layered it onto a small glassine bag. A tag with a decorative tab was added and tucked it into the baking paper pocket. To the right, you can see one of the dictionary pages also found in the the Autumn Song bundle,
For this pocket I have fussy cut one of the beautiful leaf images from the Autumn Song bundle and used it as a pocket. In it I have another of the journaling pages from the Pumpkin Patch bundle folded to use as an extra journaling spot.
Here I have added a lace pocket with some ruffled sari ribbon trim to a coffee dyed policy envelope. In the pocket I have a tag with a tab die cut from paper from the Fall Wallpaper bundle and a marigold journaling card from the Seed Catalogue bundle.
I have added a pocket to the left made from one of the fall wallpapers and added a journaling card from the Pumpkin Patch bundle and a stamped tag. To the right, I have layered a glassine bag with some pretty sari trim on top of one of the journaling pages from the Autumn Song bundle . I think this spread is one of my favourites; all of those layered fall colours!
I printed my favourite Fall Wallpaper image on vellum and made a bag that holds a tag, topped with some fall leaves and a pretty marigold flower.
For these pockets I printed a beautiful image from the Pumpkin Patch bundle on vellum and cut it in half to use as a pocket on each side. There are so many pretty touches in this journal and a variety of different ways to add journaling space. I had such fun creating this fall flip flop journal and it has definitely put me in a mood to continue making more! Thank you for taking a look and I hope you enjoy using the beautiful fall bundles available on the premium site.
As a reminder, the bundles that I used in this project are listed below.
This is my last project for this term and I want to thank Karen for the wonderful opportunity to be a member of her design team and to create with her spectacular images and bundles!

These Junk journals are very beautiful, but I really miss seeing to see how people use them and what they put in them.
So it could be interesting with some video post or pictures showing how people use them.

Hi Sisse, we have a post here that talks about what to do with a Junk Journal https://thegraphicsfairy.com/what-is-a-junk-journal/ Make sure you watch the video at the bottom of the post to see a flip through of a journal that is actually being used. I hope that helps!

A beautiful journal this is. Can you please tell me in which bundle I can find the ‘old paper printables’? And I would also like to know where I can find these beautiful vintage vases with flowers (want to use these images in a next journal). I searched everywhere, but cannot find them. Beth says that she did a little search on the site for flowers and found them…………….
It would be great to be able to find this bundle and these flowers in vases. Thank you in advance.

Hi Tineke, The vases can actually be found here on the blog, here is the link https://thegraphicsfairy.com/floral-vase-images/ We don’t actually have a bundle called “old paper printables”. I believe she is talking about the 2 Tattered Treasure Bundles that we have on the premium site. If you do a search for “Tattered” using the search box on the Premium site, they should both come up for you. I hope that helps!
