Bohemian Love Song Junk Journal
Hey everyone. Robin Dudley Howes, one of our amazing NEW Junk Journal Design Team Members, created a fabulous Bohemian Love Song Junk Journal for us this week! As you know, we feature one new Junk Journal project each week created by one of our creative team of artists. Our Design Team Members select from the 100’s of Vintage Image Bundles on our Premium Membership Site, for their creations, in order to show you beautiful ways to use those images. We hope you will be totally inspired by this series!
Please make sure you check out the video tour at the bottom of the page…please scroll all the way down to see it. Are you ready to be inspired? I will step out of the way and let Robin tell you all about her lovely project…
When I started making this junk journal for the Graphics Fairy, I knew I wanted to have a Bohemian Romani theme. There is something mysterious and enigmatic about the folk lore of Romani’s that has always fascinated me, albeit a romanticized version.
Images of dancing, freedom, spontaneous travel, big ruffled floral skirts and jangling jewels inspire me and my art work on a daily basis. And so the hunt was on, exploring the GF premium membership site for such images.
To house the journal, I made a large folder with a pocket that has been dry brushed with white gesso, stamped and collaged with vintage fibers, lace and crochet bits. The faux post card I made from the GF website fits nicely into the front pocket. Many old time advertisements are available on the GF site like the Love Song Image from the printables paper 8×10.
In my imagination, Romani’s wear vibrant colors and florals abound . The frame above is from the Red and Green Frames bundle and the Lady is from the Vintage Gypsy style bundle. The ensemble above is a faux front envelope that was inspired by a you-tuber named Gayle Agostinelli. There are many pockets and flaps making this a fun and interactive part of the journal.
Lots of fussy cutting went into this collage with images from the Vintage gypsy style bundle. The washi tape through out the journal is from the Indian Goddesses bundle and the leaves are from the Blissful Blossoms bundle.
More fussy cutting was done to create this beautiful rose and bird collage page above are from the Catharina Klein Birds bundle. I’ve always loved the contrast of colored images on vintage music paper.
The quote “Where feathers fall, Angels tread and Gypsies roam” was the thread that held the journal together. I tried incorporating images from the quote and found the Vintage feathers bundle, fussy cut the pink feather and glued it to a vintage ledger. On the other side of the page I sewed the Romany Life advertisement from the Vintage gypsy style bundle to a tag with collage elements. This is glued onto a vintage envelope flap and opens to a miniature book. If you don’t have vintage or coffee dyed paper, the Graphics Fairy Premium membership site has loads to choose from.
I hope you’ve enjoyed this flip through and that it has inspired you to create your own journal. If you need help making a junk journal, consider taking my online class at the Artsy Bohemian online school. The link is below. See you next month!
