Christmas Holiday Junk Journal
Hey, everyone! Dody Williams of Dorothy Jane Paperie, one of our amazing new Junk Journal Design Team Members, created a fabulous Christmas Holiday Junk Journal for us this week. As you know, we feature one new Junk Journal project each week created by one of our creative team of artists. Our Design Team Members select from the 100’s of Vintage Image Bundles on our Premium Membership Site, for their creations, in order to show you beautiful ways to use those images. We hope you will be totally inspired by this series!
Therefore, please make sure you check out the video tour at the bottom of the page…please scroll all the way down to see it. Are you ready to be inspired? I will step out of the way and let Dody introduce herself, and tell you all about her incredible project…
My name is Dody Williams and I think I may be a charter member of the Graphics Fairy Premium website! That’s a joke – sort of – but I have been signed up from the first bundle!
When the Scandinavian Bundle was released some time ago, I immediately saved the Santa from that collection. There was just something about him, the red of his coat was not a lipstick red, it was deep ruby red and his skin was a soft winter white. I loved him. He had to be my cover. I used some lovely pieces of vintage lace to frame him finally surrounding him with silver tinsel. The first interior pockets are also made of old lace. I think of all of my journals as treasure boxes. I like to create a lot of pockets to stuff with fun tidbits and memory makers.
I just LOVE the Holiday Fruits and Nuts bundle. I altered some of these images a bit by creating a border in Photoshop and adding typography from the Angelic Symphony bundle. The pear is my favorite!
I used several images in three digital collages by creating my own papers in Photoshop. The middle pocket of the journal is one of these papers and extends across both sides of the journal. It features Santa in his sleigh. I loved this image from the Nostalgic Christmas Illustrations bundle. I framed the pockets with lace and tinsel and a lovely ombre pink crepe paper ruffle.
The Holiday Dogs and Cats bundles offered imagery I would not usually seek out, but I just loved using so many little boys in this journal. I also created a pocket tag and clipped it to the side of a reproduction page from an old Victorian Santa book.
Using a glassine bag, I created a see through pocket and inserted an envelope I made using the Mince Meat advert from the Dickens Christmas Bundle. I LOVE this bundle and have used images from this set often since it came out!
I did include a piece of vintage ledger paper and an old victorian card in this journal. I age my own paper clips with vinegar, salt and peroxide and I used these to attach the vintage card to the journal. I love the trifold effect from the longer paper and the fact that the ledger paper can be used for Christmas lists!
The final pages use imagery from the Sounds of Christmas bundle – I love this image Christmas Chimes in particular. Like the bottom of a Victorian Christmas stocking, this pocket contains the Christmas orange! Did I mention how much I love the Nuts and Fruits bundle?
This final picture is just a smattering of some of the tags and envelopes I made to use to fill the journal just as you would fill a stocking. I was so much fun to make. Thank you Graphics Fairy for inviting me into your world of amazing imagery!

Thank you for the thorough listing of all the Graphics Fairy resources. Most of the time when watching a flip-through I find myself wishing the author would go a little faster and be less detailed. Yours was so interesting I would have loved seeing every single piece you included! The ephemera you choose was simply beautiful! Loved how you used photoshop to individualize and embellish many of the pieces. Maybe, sometime in the future, you could also do a detailed tutorial on how to rust the metal pieces – that sure added to the vintage spirit of your book. I am inspired to go create a Christmas book! Tis the Season! Thanks again!

I have searched on GF and the premium level and can’t find a holiday fruit and nut bundle. Is it named something other than the author states?
Karen Watson says
Hi Erin, if you do a search for Holiday Fruits on the Premium site, it should come right up for you. I hope that helps!
