Decorative Clipboards DIY

Clipboards are great for keeping your home office organized, but they can be a bit boring. Why not upcycle those old clipboards to make some decorative clipboards that are both functional and pretty! With just a few supplies and some time, you can create your own decorative clipboards  to use with all your organizing needs. When they’re not in use, they double as wall art. Or you can even create some to use only as wall art if you like. This is a perfect gift for crafters on any holiday list! The following is an instructional blog post that will walk you through the steps in creating this project. I hope it inspires you to get creative! One note, I used a Vintage Moth Print for this project, but you can choose any subject that you like. We have loads of Bird prints, Mushrooms, Eggs, Flowers on this site, so grab what ever speaks to you the most and use that!

This project takes a plain vintage clipboard, and makes it into something that’s not only useful but decorative too! You’ll find the instructions for this fun vintage clip board makeover below.

 

Decorative Clipboards Supply List:

1) An Old Clip Board
3) Paint Brush
4) Scissors
5) Printable Vintage Moths image HERE
You can print out the dictionary page image above, if you don’t have an old one in your stash.

Instructions for Decorative Clipboards

Step 1) First print out the vintage dictionary page above ( or use your own) and trim it to fit your clip board

Step 2) Next accordion pleat the Dictionary paper, as if you were making a fan, try to make your folds fairly even.
Step 3) Find something round to use as a template. I used a penny for mine. Draw around the object on each end of the pleated paper.
Step 4) Trim the paper along the marks that you made. Then unfold the pleats and you have a nice scalloped edge paper to work with! Yay!

Step 5) Apply the Mod Podge to the back of your scalloped edge paper, and adhere to the clip board. Allow to dry thoroughly.
Step 6) Once dry, apply a top coat of Mod Podge, as a sealer, to protect the surface.
Step 7) Then print out the Vintage Moth print and repeat the process of gluing and sealing, with the Moth print. Make sure your print is in the center of your scalloped edge paper.

That’s it! When your not using it, you can hang it on the wall as piece of art! That little holes in the clip makes it super easy to hang on the wall. I hope you enjoyed learning how to make your own Decorative Clipboards and that you create some of your own with your favorite themed prints!

    This is SO neat!! I am mad as a hornet at myself — I cannot believe I threw away an old clipboard a few weeks ago!! Never did I dream such a gorgeous piece of art it could become. I think I just might never throw anything away again!!
