DIY Coastal Style Dresser!
Today I’m sharing another fabulous DIY project by reader Annie Spackman! Annie took a Simple Dresser and gave it some Coastal Style Flair by painting two Vintage Seahorses on it!! Such a great looking piece!
Here’s what Annie had to say about this project “It’s summertime!! So I decided to do a beachy dresser to put in my booth by the sea:) I called up my friend Susan and went “picking” at her house! She is an amazing painter of furniture and she had a couple great pieces that were unfinished. I bought this dresser from her for $30.00! Thank you Susan!!.”
Supplies:
1) Vintage Dresser
2) Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in French Linen, Old White and Provence
3) Seahorse Image (Enlarged at a Copy Center)
4) Carbon Paper
5) 150 Grit Sandpaper
Steps:
Step 1) First I gave the dresser a good cleaning with warm soapy water.
Step 2) My first layer of paint was French Linen on the top 4 drawers. Then I went over that with Provence and sanded so you could see the base coat peek through.
Step 3) I then sanded with 150 grit sand paper to give it a distressed look.
Step 4) Then the fun part! Choosing the image 🙂 Of course I always come here to The Graphics Fairy! I went with this seahorse because I wanted a little more detail then just a silhouette. I used a carbon paper type method and traced the image on. Then I mixed up a gray color and painted over the traced image. I’m very pleased with how this beach inspired dresser turned out 🙂
Thanks so much for submitting another fabulous project Annie!! I hope you guys enjoyed it! Also, if you live in the Ocean Beach, CA area, or are planning a visit there, be sure and visit The Corner Store (Owned by Dee and Jeanie) where Annie sells her wonderful pieces! So appreciate the gorgeous seahorse images. I went to link for the mystical seahorse also, I’d love to color it in, will have to find am image in color so I know what to use. Love all the images, and so appreciate being able to get them. Also loved the armor, will go great on a trug we made.
This dresser looks so nice with the seahorses. Great accent for dresser, give it more interest. The color on dresser is good also. So much talent, amazed by it all.
Happy days
