Greetings!
It’s Candie from CandieCooper.com with another easy-peasy jewelry project. Once upon a time when I was in college doing my student teaching, I sold what I call “teacher pins.” They were made of watercolor paper, simple quirky designs with little embellishments. I set them up in the “teacher’s lounge” on little trays for $5 each. Man, I sold A LOT of those pins! This project was inspired by those good ol’ days!
Can I just say how fun it was to get back to playing around with paper, laminating and stitchery?!? Click on the tab to the right to see all the fantastic Halloween images on The Graphics Fairy site. Print your picks onto nice paper in the proper size. These are pins–not too big, not too small.
Cut out each of the images. Optionally, you can leave a tiny border.
Next, seal each image (or two) in a self sealing laminating pouch. Cut around the image, leaving 1/8″ border (approximately) and punch around the edge of the image with a 1mm diameter hole punch.
You can see, I put the holes pretty close together. Remember those stitch cards with big chunky yarn and plastic needles from when we were kids? Now is when we are going to put those skills to use! For these I kept it simple with a lacing stitch using embroidery floss around the border. You can lay a second strand of floss on top to lace over (couching technique, anyone?) which makes the border super fly. You can come up with your own stitch patterns too!
Tie the floss off on the back side.
Speaking of stitch variations, check out the owl version with the blanket stitched edge! I was pretty proud of that one. The witch in the pumpkin has the laced stitch like the black cat. Either way, the double floss is the way to go because it adds a lot of oomph to these simple pins. Of course, you can also add flat back crystals, sparkles, and charms to the front as well!
Glue the pin back to the upper back side with a multi-purpose adhesive.
That’s all there is to it! Need a Halloween treat for your chid’s teacher or idea for the fall craft bazaar? I nominate these cuties!
Just for fun, here’s another spunky jewelry project over on my Candie Cooper blog.
As always, thanks for checking out my post and for being so kind here on the Graphics Fairy blog.
Warmly,
