Hi there, it’s Andrea from The Cottage Market. Well Summer is winding down a bit but we still have time for a simple DIY Project that reminds us of the Shore and the Ocean. A DIY Vintage Style Whale Display that would look great on a bookshelf…coffee table or just about any place. It’s simple and you can adapt the DIY to many different images here at The Graphics Fairy. If you would like this wonderful whale…just click here. Now let’s get to crafting.
Here are the supplies you will need: You image to apply to your wood, an image to trace your whale from, scissors, a dowel, a paint brush, your favorite glue and paint and a pencil. You will need a scroll saw or a hand saw.
After you sized your image…cut it out and trace it onto a piece of pine (I used 3/4″ pine).
After you cut the whale (or other image) and the simple rectangle base it is time to sand.
Now paint your base and your whale in the color of your choice. Used a chalkboard black. Let it dry really good and then lightly sand once again.
Now all you have to do is apply a thin coat of thinned glue and attach you image. Allow it to dry after it is placed in the perfect spot. After it dries…sand off all of the unwanted edges. If you would like…now is the time to add your favorite coating.
Simply Drill coordinated holes in the base and the base of the whale so you can attach the dowel.
Now simply assemble like a tinker toy…add some of your favorite shells and viola! Birds would be tons of fun to work with too.
Hope you give this a try and enjoy! I will be back soon with some fall fun…if you would like to visit with me before that…i am always hanging out at The Cottage Market!
Hugs…
Andrea

Love idea of this image and others to be made into wood statuary, so easy also. Using bird images would be good so will be looking for images I especially enjoy. Thanks for these images and appreciate your time and talents. Happy weekend
