Forest Lore Junk Journal
Hey guys. Nik the Booksmith, one of our talented Junk Journal Design Team members, has created a fascinating junk journal for us today. As you know, we feature one new Junk Journal every week created by our awesome team of book artisans.
We want you to be totally inspired by this series! Nik created a handsome Forest Lore Junk Journal project this month. Be sure to check out the video tour at the bottom of the page…please scroll all the way down to see it. Are you ready to view this amazing creation? I will let Nik tell the intriguing story of her book…
The Story of Nik’s Forest Lore
Down into the forest dipping,
Deep and deeper as we go,
One might fancy dryads slipping
Where the white-stemmed birches grow. –Lucy Maud Montgomery
Even though trapped in the grip of cold weather, I dream of warmer days and walks through piney woods. My love for all things woodland inspired this month’s design team project journal called Forest Lore. Images use to create this book are from the Graphics Fairy Premium Membership site.
On the cover, I’ve applied a splendid painting technique to mimic sapling bark. There is a tall, stately tree inside the framed panel.
If you look closely, you may notice the Shield Lichen ‘growing’ around the edges and spreading along the edges of the frame.
Nestled amongst the leaves of the book are nature-themed raggedies. Aged textiles, scraps of torn book pages, and hand-marbled paper all sewn together with felted leaves and green, leafy springs to create an instantly disheveled, yet charming spirit.
Searching for woodland creatures in the Graphics Fairy Premium Membership images was easy. However, picking what images to use from among so many… now that was the challenge! I love this stag image on the page below. The graphic is superbly crisp and detailed. I added some leaves and blossoms to his antlers to complete the fanciful forest theme.
Additionally, found from among the graphic bundles were some book title pages that I turned into a small folder with page tabs sewn onto the fore edges.
The avian imagery on the Premium Site is second to none. So many birds to choose from on any type of tree branch you could imagine!
This month’s theme is very close to my heart. It was my pleasure to craft a book for the Graphics Fairy design team. I hope you enjoyed taking a peek inside!
